Is there a auto harvest mod that actually works?

Post » Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:51 am

I tried some auto harvest mods such as "Herbalism" (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11068) and two others. First mentioned I found very nice but all of them give me crashes every time I save the game (black screen & standard Windows error message). When I uninstalled those mods, everything went fine again.

Does anyone of you notice the same problem when using one of these mods?

Please, post your load order: http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=know_how_to#PostYourLoadOrder

Could you also post links to the auto-harvest mods you are trying to use? People do use enough of them, at least a couple should work, I guess...

And here is the other auto harvest mod. Actually, it was just that one besides Herbalism:

Grab UOP 3.2.8 if you have not already. Otherwise, your load order looks okay. I only skimmed it, but nothing jumped out at me.

Try this mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14259 <-- Let me know how things go. I may add it to the Popular Outdated Mods page as the alternative to other auto-harvest mods.

Edit: Get rid of MOBS, and install OMOBS: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28537 <-- FCOM and OOO use OMOBS rebalancing

Thanks!
I'm about to install UOP 3.2.8. I already had 3.2.7.

I gonna try the other harvest mod you mentioned above. I will report later.

And concerning MOBS/OMOBS:
I had both installed. Now I deleted MOBS, just using OMOBS now.

By the way:
Do I need OMOBS.esp AND OMOBS-SI.esp both installed or only OMOBS-SI.esp??

Don't forget to rebuild the patch with the OMOBS stats now imported.

Excuse me for butting into your thread Marimaus, but may I ask a question?

Wow! I notice you have a very long list of mods too. What kind of rig do you have to be able to run that many mods?

Are these kinds of long mod sets common? Is my little 2.6GHz rig just plain obsolete?

There are users running more than that on a 2.4GHz. There important part is what you have not posted. Are you running a 2.6Hz Core2Duo or Quad-Core or what? The architecture matter more than any other spec. On these forums, you'll probably get a skewed view of what most Oblivion mod users run. Here, that is pretty common.

Newer architecture is better optimized, period. Dual-core is not enough either. Core2Duos, for example, is probably the one of the best, if not "the" best, two-cores processor family. ...I forgot about the new i3 and i5 Intel families have dual-cores. Well, the Core2Duos were the top. Oblivion does not directly benefit from multiple cores, but the system does. Oblivion.exe is not ever the only process running, so multiple threads are still beneficial.

Oblivion does get a little benefit from multiple cores. It makes use of threading particularly when loading resources from disk. Other than that, the engine doesn't make heavy use of threads.

Most of the benefits of multiple cores with Oblivion are indirect. As an example, if the rest of the system can be run on one core, while Oblivion gets a separate core basically all to itself, you'll see some benefit.

As for long mod lists and how they affect system performance, it really depends on what type of mods are loaded. Some mods are quite small and only change a couple existing things in game; they have essentially no impact on system performance. Others are heavily graphics based and can bog down nearly any system (some of the VWD mods are prime examples). So seeing a long mod list by itself really doesn't mean anything. It depends on what mods are installed, not how many.

@Anthropoid
Yes, I do use an Intel Core2Duo 8400, further 4 GB RAM and a Sparkle GeForce 9800GTS. Anyway, I still get performance issues even on medium graphic settings. First thing I do every time I start the game is turn the weather manually into "clear". Rain just hits my performance too hard, as well as high detailed water.

@Tomlong
"Gather Ye Rosebuds" works great! Thanks! :)

But pity that it doesn't harvest all the addtitional plants added by landscape altering mods, such as "ImpeREAL City Unique Districts". In the district Arboretum there are hundreds of Flax Seed Plants. The harvest spell does only pick up the "vanilla plants", not these new ones. :(

I ran Oblivion just fine on an E8400. I have only had the E8500 for a year because I built a system for my sister last year and move the E8400 into hers.

I'm pretty happy with my system. Also, I think I could increase the graphics but I mistrust the game. Still getting regular crashes every 10-30 minutes or so. The game is awesome but those crashes really piss me off...

That is way too often. I do not know your GPU well, but I ran a number of mods with OOO for quite a while with my E8400 and an 8800GT 512MB. I enjoyed playing on my P4 too...

Gather ye Rosebuds uses OBSE and works with mod added plants. However, it skips any plants that are off-limits to the player. So perhaps the mod has the ownership of those plants assigned, and Gather ye Rosebuds is skipping them for that reason.

Seems you're dead on! :)
Those mentioned Flax Seed Flowers in Arboretum are "red-handed". Taking them actually means stealing them, although the guards just watched and did nothing when I mowed that district. ;)

Harvesting the newly added plants in the Academy works!

Yeah, plant ownership doesn't actually work like you'd expect in Oblivion. They get the red hand, but it isn't actually a crime to harvest them. And the harvested item doesn't get marked stolen.

Thought I might butt in.
Technically any piece of crap machine can run up to the maximum number of mods (255 esm/esps.) The effect on one's computer is really due to the specifics of those mods - for example increased graphics sizes (textures) can cause a serious hit - and the biggest of these (like Qar's Texture Pack 3) don't even add to that number as they don't include ANY esm/esps! So for some a game with zero extra esm/esps might be hard hit by such files.
