Should i buy The Infernal City?

Post » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:39 pm

Okay so im a huge fan of the series and was wondering should i get this book?
But first am i truly missing out on anything huge in the story of tamriel as a whole, i have read other topics about it but there are alot of mixed views mainly bad.
They all seem just alittle too bias to be plausible, anyhow just want some thoughts and opinions.
No spoilers please thanks.

Yes, you should certainly buy it. Especially if you love the lore in Elder Scrolls. Most people who are unhappy with the events that take place are simply ignorant* of the fact that those events were already foretold in the lore of the previous games. Especially when you consider it's under $10 how can you not buy it!?

However... without spoiling I'll say it's kind of like half a book really. Super cliffhanger. So, you might just want to wait until the sequel book comes out and buy them both. It's supposedly coming out on the 27th of September, but that's only from a amazon listing. We've had no official confirmation so far.

*I'm not using ignorant as an attack, but as what the word actually means. Ignorant = 2. Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular.
Just thought I should clarify that. As some people take offense to that word

Yes, it's a bit of both. Because while it's a total jerk move. It also really really makes you want part two...

Also, for you or anyone out there who just absolutely does not want to read the whole book you can check out the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/infernal-city-lore-notes over at the Imperial Library for all the interest details that effect Tamriel.

If you are not sure about buying Infernal City, then just rent it form a library.

Anyone know what the difference between these two versions is?

The one has 288 pages, the other 304. And the cover is slightly different. They are both paperback. They are both in English. But the one is slightly cheaper than the other. So what's the point?

It's an easy read, I finished it in 4 hours (two stretch and one lunch break). It does end in a cliffhanger, but if you plan on reading the next volume what's the difference from reading now or later.

On amazon both versions are listed as having 304 pages. I guess they just re-released it in June with a new cover? (I would check the page count on my copy but someone is borrowing it)

I guess I'll go with the slightly more expensive one. I like that cover better. :D

Ahh yes, that would be the original cover. And I agree, it looks better to me :icecream: I'm still hoping they release a "combined" version of both The Infernal City and The sequel, The Lord of Souls.* That's what they did with the Orcs: First blood series* by Stan Nicholls. After the first three books came out they released them as one huge book.

1* Still not confirmed as the actual title by Bethesda. Only in a amazon listing
2* Not Elder Scrolls related, but it is a fantastic series, especially if you are interested in Orcs. His version of them is possibly my favorite out of any "fantasy" setting. Stan Nicholls is also one of the few writers who can describe a battle scene and make you "believe it" feels just as epic as watching a movie. :toughninja:

Yes, it's a good book if you love TES and it's lore despite the non-ending.

My book has 288 pages plus the pages without numbers in the front and back. (Prologue and Epilouge, cover pages and about the author page)

I didn't feel as if I got my money's worth, so I recommend borrowing it through interlibrary loan through your public library. I was surprised to see a copy at my local library the other day; even though it's the state capital, the library is nothing special and you'd figure the book would be obscure.

"The Infernal City" has its moments.
Spoiler
I liked the two passages of the living speaking with the dead, and the agent Colin is one of the more interesting characters despite not being the main protagonist. The portrayal of the Khajiits was good.
