Looking for a storyteller or minstrels mod

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 4:57 am

I am just doing a couple of last touches to the Mesogea mod before uploading for others to work on. I have several Inns and Taverns but they're not like any pub Ive ever visited. When has everyone ever sat down all quiet like, eating apples from the lap and quaffing beer from an empty cup. Well, not much to do about that, but for ambience and noise, there must be something.

Are there any mods out there that add any of the following:

A storyteller NPC
Singers
Musicians
Rowdy sounds

Yes, there is definitely a mod that adds ambient sound and music to inns. Corepc did a mod called Minstrels of Tamriel or somesuch but I don't know exactly what it does. There is also a mod that adds fights to pubs and taverns - bar room brawls. It allows npcs to pick up objects like bottles and bread and use them as weapons.

See Cliffworms' Oblivifall - Oblivion Comes ALive, which adds Corepcs's Minstrels of Tamriel. It has not yet been released, but the thread can be found http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1088895-relzwipz-oblivifall-vengeance-of-the-classic/page__p__15872812&#entry15872812.

Looking for a storyteller or minstrels mod

You and me both, buddy!

There was another mod with minstrels that someone had made - maybe Tamriel Travelers or something like that - but the bards didn't have any animations, which was kind of a bummer to me since I know there is an existing animation somewhere. I have seen in youtube videos of an Oblivion char playing a modern acoustic and an electric guitar. People have even used it to make machinima with it, but I have yet to find where that animation comes from or a bard mod that actually uses it.

I am waiting hopefully for the mod that Cliffworms is working on which Corepc had started. Minstrels of Tamriel is supposed to have animations, I believe.

When that mod is finished, I was thinking of adding my own scripted bard with some original songs to it. I would write some or at least do some covers of some old bard-type songs. I play guitar, so I won't promise authenticity, but I am working on my fingerstyle to make it sound lute-like. I could always rework some modern songs into Tamriel-specific parody songs so no copyrights would be in violation.

I know an actual medieval-style bard, though, who plays at renaissance faires who might contribute some songs if he's feeling generous. Maybe I could convince him that it could generate an interest in his work, so he might benefit, too.

If worse comes to worse and Minstrels is never finished for some reason, then I'll go ahead with my mod as best as I can and hopefully I can figure out the animation and scripting details. I had begun a proof-of-concept bard mod for Morrowind way back when, but I could never get an NPC animation from anywhere apart from a less-than-satisfying animated static object (not an NPC) which you could "talk to" to request songs.

And until now, the only 'playable' lute mods I've seen are usually ones where you put the lute on the ground and activate it like a jukebox or wield it like a weapon. I don't know if anyone here has ever used a lute to hit someone with, but I can almost guarantee you that the neck of the instrument would snap in the first hit, at the very least. Musical instruments were not made for fighting with. :P

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14280 has a lute playing animation. It allows the PC to play different tunes dependant on skill level. Sometimes NPCs dance while the PC plays. Don't know whether the animation is available as a resource though.

Ok. I am hoping to find a basic resource, something that doesnt touch Tamriel etc so it doesnt create a dirty merge with Mesogea. Guess Ill have to give up on it at the moment.

A storyteller mod would be great...traveling from inn to inn in different cities or along the beaten path...and telling stories. For a price, of course. I could imagine him/her/it requesting some coin first. And possibly telling a s-load of different stories at each different place...for instance, have 30 different stories that run in a loop...one per place, and not repeating any until the loop is ran through.

That would take a lot of writing...but maybe somebody on this board is gifted with excellent storytelling skills.

Ahh. See what you mean, yeah. I looked but couldn't find just an animation resource with a lute playing animation and since there hasn't been a completed mod that adds bards, it's probably gonna be hard to impossible to find a resource like that as of yet.

I don't know why I said Tamriel-specific music in my post. I do want a bard mod for Cyrodiil, but I might be interested in doing a mod like this for Mesogea eventually. I'd like to get a good feel for it first and then see how the bards would fit into the culture before trying to get some music together. I have been watching the videos, but what will really be cool is to be able to run around the cities and see the architecture in game, talk to npcs, ride around the continents you have so far (when you are ready for a preliminary/source release) and in this way, really get a feel for the land before I try to add anything to it. In the meantime, though, I'll watch the videos and look at screenshots you have so far.

I'll add a video again very soon of the work Ive recently done. Not long now until I can upload it all. There are a good few locations you could then take a look at.
