There are a heap of really epic castle mods, I dont have any links, but others might.

yeah Glimmerstone would be the castle you would want. That thing is HUGE. When I tried it out I didn't even find all the rooms shown on nexus. Unfortunately it seems like the project was probably abandoned.

I always thought that http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8235 was pretty great. Big - cool quests - lots of NPCs. Really well done.

Castles much bigger than those I routinely have seen for modded Oblivion would be walled towns or cities, not castles, and not properly scaled to the game world.

In fact, IMHO, the problem with most castles in/for Oblivion is that, if anything, they seem far too expansive and modern -- Renaissance as opposed to Medieval.

Myself, I would prefer a rustic stone tower or small feasting hall, surrounded by an outer wall and perhaps a moat. Nix the indoor swimming pools, arboriums, alchemical labs, cathedrals and so forth.

To each his own I suppose.

Have you tried the official DLC, Fighter's Stronghold?

Battlehorn Castle is one of my favourite in-game homes.

I love the exterior of Battlehorn. It feels 'right' as the stronghold of a minor member of the nobility. It has the feel of a fortress along the English/Scottish border.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for the interior, which is ridiculously large and sprawling, with lots of wasted space, and is pretty bland. The interior of Seaview Castle on the other hand is nice and tightly constructed, you actually feel as though you are in a castle tower.

For my money the 'best' big castle with lots of secrets has to be Glenvar Castle. It does have the look of a grim fortress when outside the gates though, which may not be what the OP is looking for.

Yes, and Battlehorn's exterior was obviously designed initially to actually contain it's own interior, then things got a bit silly.
