What are your favorite fully-voiced mods?

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:38 pm

For my current setup of Oblivion, I decided to say "goodbye" to mods like 'Ruined Tail's Tale' and 'Tears of the Fiend,' 'Windfall,' 'The Ayleid Steps,' and 'Vanilla Vampires Revised', all in an attempt to use only fully voiced mods. Housing, companions, quests... even store keepers. I have a pretty good knowledge already of some of the bigger ones, like 'Heart of the Dead', 'Vilja,' and 'The Lost Spires,' but I'm still looking around for others that I may have missed.

So far I have...
'Mud and Blood'
'The Lost Spires'
'Heart of the Dead'
'Vilja'
'Verona House Bloodlines' (I think it's fully voiced, but not sure)
'An-Arane Cey'
'Let the People Drink'
'Arrows of the Ayleid King'
'Vampire Clan Raelu' (Until Unholy Darkness Comes out :) )
'Vampire Hunter'
and 'Bladesong'
(and looking forward to 'Reclaiming Sancre Tor')

What are your favorites?

Mr_siika's Dwemer Skyship is rediculously awesome, but the voice acting itself is a bit abysmal really, and it hasn't even been lip-synched.

I didn't know that mod had voice acting, but if it's voiced that poorly, I probably won't use it.

It's one of my favorites, you only have to deal with the voice for a little while. The quests don't take longer then a forty or fifty minutes, depending on your character's strength. One of the best house mods out there and totally worth the download.

Bladesong had the best voice acting by far out of all the ones I played. It was also one of the best scripted adventures I played through. Now I say this only because I liked it so much, but I just wish there was more time in the character development, because things do move a little fast for my taste.

The Lost Spires was a really interesting experience. The voice actors were talented (Anyone who could pull off an Argonian voice like that deserves to be called talented), the adventure itself was everything I would have hoped for to send my treasure hunter character through, and the dungeons were well designed, challenging, and god, I could never forget that minotaur.

And Cybades was awesome too. The voice acting wasn't the strong point of this adventure (it does help though), but the special effects were great, the writing was great, the dungeon crawl was epic, and its just an adventure that really changes your character's perspective on a lot of things... Not to mention, if your a daggerfall player, the mod makes you feel very nostalgic. It has a very retro RPG feel, both graphically and storywise. With powerful wizards, a dungeon centered plot (In the second part at least) and great loot. I love this mod!

And speaking of dungeon crawls, the Oubliette was fully voiced now that I think about it. Its a great experience as well. A halloween adventure rooted in elements of horror. To me it wasn't so much frightening, just really awesome. Yet another adventure I enjoy putting all my characters through.

Emma's Vilja is my favorite thus far!

I haven't yet tried Cybiades yet (when I had looked at screenshots, everything pretty much looked good except for parts of the Island, which seemed a bit too plain or something, just something weird about it.

This video I found makes it look alot cooler than the other screenies I had seen though (and it has a Rammstein soundtrack). It may contain Spoilers so watch out, but since I don't read German (it's the German version of the mod), I just enjoyed the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC0oGEmqAZU&feature=related! The lipsync effect to the singing is just too funny!

I thought that did get complete voice acting, or it should be mostly voice acted by now. I remember when I first played it I didn't notice much unvoiced dialogue, and then later there was like 1 or two updates adding more voice acting.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6855 is good.

As I recall thehttp://www.filefront.com/user/giskarduk/http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22595 series of mods are all fully voice acted, I can't fully endorse using them though because some of them have been known to be dirty/buggy.

Can't really think of anymore. Overall I'm not a very big fan of voice acting because it often times means being extremely limiting on the dialogue. It's like if the main selling point of the mod was that all of the enemies you meet will be entirely unique creatures... and then it turns out that you only face three singular enemies. I'd take 3 dozen generic Bandit/creatures/etc. over that any day. (Though, I guess if it was one of those "three dragons are attacking Cyrodiil! are you a bad enough dude to stop them?" type mod it'd make sense, and kind of invalidate what I'm trying to say with my anology)

EDIT: Oh, yeah http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22226was one mod where the voice acting actually seemed to add a lot, mostly because the mod focused entirely on the three personalities you could put in the weapon, and the voiceacting for each was very good.

And another one for future consideration:

Currently partially voice acted. But the rest of the voice acting work is currently under way.

Lost Sword of the Ayleid.. and that mod quickly disappeared off the face of the planet.

And well, its not what you could call "fully voiced" but for suspense sake, lets just say the NPC that was speaking to me, had a tone so dreadful and cocky that I really felt like he was going to whip my ass.

At the risk of derailing the thread, I'd like to ask the OP what types of mods work best with Voice acting?

I'd think that a Companion mod, where only a single character needs new voice files, so they can have a unique voice, or one set in a new worldspace, where all the characters have fresh dialog that can again be unique, would work. There may be other situations where you can avoid mixed voices.

I gave up on the idea of doing VA for quest mods that integrate into the main flow of the game, because it's impossible to avoid adding dialog to existing characters, who must now speak in two or more voices, and I don't have access to the original voice actors, or reasonable clones.

Of course that same problem happens in vanilla anyway. It can be rather annoying to hear a beggar ask for a coin in one voice, but talk to you with a upper class voice in conversation!

That's why in my Oblivion RP "reality" I kinda think of all the NPCs as being borderline psychotic, schizophrenic and some having multiple personality disorder. And of course everyone has OCD about mudcrabs. It's a sad sort of reality, but more fun than thinking that the character is suddenly using a different voice.

That said, I enjoy voice acted mods, though I won't avoid a mod just because it doesn't have voice acting (b/c I know how hard it is to find VAs to to a large mod) and in fact, if the VA is really bad or too weird, I'd almost rather not have it. For example, I almost chose Kvatch Aftermath (voiced) over Kvatch Rebuilt (non-voiced), but then I watched a video that had one of the voice acted NPCs talking to the player about setup options (which probably should have been handled in a silent menu). I ended up going with the non-voiced KR instead.

The VA in KA actually seemed pretty good (well the Khajiit voice wasn't bad) but I can't stand when characters talk to the player/audience instead of the character. Farris Bueller, Deadpool, and a few other characters can get away with breaking the "4th wall", but that only works for a tongue-and-cheek comedy that doesn't take itself seriously b/c it completely kills immersion.
