Steam version of oblivion and official mods

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 10:02 am

So I went ahead and bought the steam version of Oblivion with the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. installed a few mods, had fun, good times. then i saw Frostcrag Reborn, and quickly wanted to buy the Wizards tower again to use this awesome update. Went to the Oblivion mods page, went to checkout, but then saw "this mod will not work with the Steam version of Oblivion."

Well crud. Am I boned here? Is there there any way to ge an official mod without having to go and buy the complete package?

You already have all the dlc's if you bought game of the year edition on steam. GOTY inlcudes shivering sles, knights of the nine and all small dlc's.

Actually the GOTY comes with only Shivering Isles and KOTN, you need to get the deluxe edition for the smaller DLC.

Umm just checked and you are right they actually do have two goty versions, one without the small dlc's.....

Well that complicates things a little, but you can still buy the dlc's. The installer probably doesn't work with steam version but as long as you get the esp's extracted its no problem. Those installers don't even work on 64bit systems so just google a little and you will find out how to extract the files, then just install them like normal user made mods. Place the .BSA and esp in data folder.

Im actually trying to figure out how to extract files from an installshield.exe right now, haven't found a good way yet, so check before buying. But yeah as long as you get the files extracted you can use them, it is just a bsa archive and a .esp.

You could try http://legroom.net/software/uniextract, I haven't tried it on the DLC myself, but I think I have heard of people on here using it successfully.

Yeah just go to http://legroom.net/software/uniextract and install that then use it to extract the files. I just tried it on a the old battlehorn installer and it works great. The only files you need are the ones in the data folder. The .bas and .esp
