I sincerely hope this brings Apple down a peg or two and teaches them a lesson on Ethics.

Now I do agree that it should have been announced, but:

1. Android phones also tracks your movement (though to a much more limited scale: only collects the 200 most recent spots and they did tell you in their EULA)

2. The data is sent back anonymously, only if someone has your phone can they pin it to you. At which point you probably have bigger problems given the huge amount of private information most people store on their smart phone

In fact, you have to actually tap a button to agree with it.

Google chrome, google android, google search bar (in android and firefox), mac snow leopard - all of these gather wifi location data when used. Wall Street Journal has been covering this for a while. Today's paper, google and apple released statements about how their OS's and other stuff (like google search bar) gathers wifi location data - and the location of your computer.
