Please give us centered third person camera option

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:42 pm

I do understand that this new style lately of "off to the side" 3rd person cameras are all the rage lately, but I would really appreciate having both options. I am sure there will be a mod at some point, but it would be nice because some of us still like the standard over the shoulder centered perspective.

Centered gets more in your way, which is why I think that offset is more popular. I dont really like third person games, but dead space for example... would be impossible to play if it were centered.

No, give us complete customizable offset controls. That way we can choose for ourselves how the 3rd person camera will be. Personally I only use it for screenshot purposes, but having photography as a hobby, I need to be able to compose the shot.

Customizable controls:
Lateral Offset (X): Left or right of your character.
Longitudinal Offset (Y): Back (distance) or front (ehh) of your character.
Altitude Offset (Z): How high the camera will be.
Target Altitude Offset (T): In effect, moves the crosshair up and down on screen.

I don't want the camera to be centred, nor 'off-to-the-side', but in between.

I support this. I'm a fan of centered 3rd person view, not this "off to the side" nonsense. Give us OPTIONS, Beth!

Haha that's such an ignorant comment.

Sure, put it in the center so I can see a crosshair in the centre of my PC's head the whole time, not over the shoulder where I get a clear view of what I'm doing and what the enemies doing - doing that would be stupid, something we should leave to brainless shooters.

I honestly feel that over the shoulder third person is better for a game that is designed primarily for first person. A center third person camera requires a different control scheme, (in my opinion) one in which you can rotate the camera 360 around your character. But, I'm always in favor of giving the player choices. I think it's more important that the floating is gone in third person. The trailer looks promising!

Why is a centered third person superior to an over the shoulder view? And more importantly, is it really so superior that you can reasonably claim that anybody who disagrees lacks intelligence?

So could you tell me some games that feature a centred camera which is superior to over the shoulder? I've been playing games as long as I can remember and OTS has always been better;
Resident Evil 4, 5
Fallout 3, NV
Grand Theft Auto IV
Batman Arkham Asylum
These games don't seem like mindless shooters to me.

OTS camera is pretty much standard in modern third person games/games with a third person view.

Isnt the camera already centered? I mean, we really didnt see much 3rd person. The shot with the mage walking down the street is probably them just rotatin the camera to the side while they're walking
