The Warren RP

OOC: This is a sad day, there's no way we could have kept it going without MrSmileySmile to move the story along. I suppose this really will have to be put into sleep for now.

Eli liked this girl, Zoey. It was good to hear that his younger brother had left something behind, to be remembered for. Zoey handed him a list, loading her gun and explaining that if his wife and daughter were on this list that they would be in the Warren. Eli eagerly scanned the list, he ran his gloved fingers along the names. His heart stopped as he reached the name he'd been looking for, Ana Lattimore, that was his wife's maiden name. Jackie's name wasn't on the list, but there was no doubt in his mind that she was with her mother. Eli handed the list to Markus, "They're in the Warren." Eli said to Zoey.

He now readied his AK, loading a mag and shouldering the sub-machine gun. "I'll join you, under one condition. When we confront Ellis and Stane, I will be the one to end them. They took away my brother, I will take their lives." Eli, putting his ski-mask back on and then his gas mask, walked to Zoey. He held out his hand, "Do we have a deal?"

OOC: That's the spirit! I'm sure Mr.SmileySmile will be back any day now. Also, Dan, if you're still here you can react to my post. If not I'll adapt the situation accordingly.

After several minutes of arguing and planning William reached an agreement with Ellis. A scout would be sent up to the bunker first while the rest of the men moved to encircle the area in a loose net. Upon confirmation from the scout they would quickly move in and assault the bunker, clearing any resistance they would encounter with explosives and automatic rifles. It certainly wasn't the most elegant of plans but they didn't have too many tactical geniuses amongst their ranks.

Of course William wanted to avoid killing as many rebels as he could, but it was too late now. If the rebels were smart they would've evacuated long ahead of their arrival. The first rebel William saw would have to be an unfortunate sacrifice for the war effort. He just hoped that he wouldn't be on the receiving end of the rebel guns. This whole expedition was starting to have the makings of a horrible friendly fire disaster.

Not that the rebels were necessarily friendlies, there was absolutely no telling what some of their motives were. Ellis and his men were enemies, but they were enemies that he knew and could predict. There was still little idea on what types of people Zoey had recruited for her resistance.

William watched as the men began to fan out and surround the bunker. As they did so William clutched his rifle tightly and made sure his belongings were all secured properly and that he was ready to run. He eyed Ellis out of the corner of his eye, if there was an opportunity to remove Ellis he would make sure to seize it. No matter what he did on the debate floor, the final showdown with Ellis was certain to be a military one.

Hand signals from the combined force came up and all final preparations were in place. The men were ready to strike.

William raised his whistle to his mouth, took a deep breath, and blew on it as hard as he could. The shriek of the whistle reverberated across the wasteland and for a moment, time almost seemed to stop.

Every gun surrounding the ridge opened up in a hailstorm of lead. The rattle of machine guns would be heard for miles upon miles. The wave of bullets created a dust storm around the ridge as the inexperienced fighters tried to bury whatever lay at the top with lead.

Eventually William called for a ceasefire to conserve ammunition and shouted for everybody to charge for the top of the ridge. Every man mounted their bayonets then charged with a battle cry on their lips and a pouch filled with grenades. William's legs began to ache as he pounded his way up the slope right behind his men.

The men who had made it to the top dove underneath the crest of the ridge and threw a volley of grenades into the bunker. The explosion nearly made William go deaf and he felt the force of the explosions rip over his head.

Immediately afterward he rose up and roared at his men "Into the breach men! Forward!"

Hello everyone.

I have not been on these forums lately, and I see although the Warren hasn't moved much (thank God), I see I have a lot of catching up to do. I've been out for these past two weeks, and I can't really say I regret not checking up because what with my laptop charger being lost by a friend, I didn't have much time for little besides homework, if that. I have 29 percent as of now, and doubt I'll be doing anything tonight, but I'll see about getting one, my birthday is tomorrow.

Now, with that out of the way, I'll catch up on everybody and everything else tomorrow or later this week. Glad to be back. Until later!

IC:

"They're in the Warren." Zoey was happy for Eli, She'd just helped somone who cared about his family find them, it gave her a warm feeling inside.

"That's good news, i wouldn't recommend heading into the Warren at this moment in time, ive just been there and well ive been run out of town so i had to sneak in and not be seen" As she spoke Eli loaded a magazine into an Ak-74 sub machine gun

"Ak-74 huh i prefer a H&K MP5 myself for a sub but the 74? still a good weapon. But my preffered weapon? Colt M4 and either an Accuracy International L96 sniper's rifle or a Remington 700 sniper's rifle" Zoey looked down at the rifle in her hands, a Colt M4A1 with suppresor and holographic sight chambered in 55.6 rounds.

"I'll join you, under one condition. When we confront Ellis and Stane, I will be the one to end them. They took away my brother, I will take their lives." Zoey watched as Eli placed his ski mask back on and held out his hand to her

"Do we have a deal?" Zoey smiled and and firmly shook Eli's hand

"We certainley do have a deal. Just so long as i get to hurt him too" Zoey laughed slightly

"I like you Eli, you have your head screwed on, Any sibling or friend of Sam's is a friend of mine unless they're an [censored] of course but your not an [censored]" Letting go of Eli's handand looked back at the weapons and ammo they'd brought over

"Hey if you need ammo or wepons there is a fair bit over by the fire, feel free too..." Zoey heard a low thump in the distance

"INCOMING!" Sarah shouted from the shadows as she hit the deck, instictivley Zoey did too as a grenade from a grenade launcher flew over head and detonated fifteen metere's behind them

"They're coming from the north! the south as well!"Sarah did her best to shout over the explosion. Sprinting to the supplies Zoey grabbed a bag of night vision goggles taking two out she threw the bag to Eli so he and his team had some NVG's as well.

"Here use these return fire im going to watch the south!" Zoey was now shouting over the crackling gunfire sprinting to the south end of camp she shouted to Eli

"I trust you to spread you team out as you see best, Sarah's got the north im going to cover the south" As she ran past the fire Zoey slid across the ground into a crouch behind a rock, faintly behind her she could hear Sarah firing at the hostile's. Paying attention to her line of site she started firing in controlled bursts, in five bursts she had dropped two targets fifteen seconds later she heard a click and as she unclipped the magazine a figure in black combat armour ran towards her, Zoey let go of the rifle and empty clip and as she pulled her pistol from its holster she felt the weapons strap pull on the back of her neck. She let out four rounds into the approaching target and he fell face first into the dirt, squeezing off the rest of the pistol mag she yanked a grenade of her armour and threw it

"Grenade out!" Zoey tossed the grenade as far as she could, the grenade exploded with a deafaning thud, with two empty weapons she shouted

"Reloading!" Hoping for some cover from somone

Eli chuckled when Zoey commented about Ellis and Stane, but as soon as she did, a loud thump and explosion erupted in the camp. Zoey and Sarah both ran to defend to the north and south ends of the camp, the enemy was flanking them. Zoey shouted to Eli to do his best to order his men, and soon she was in the fight. His soldier's instincts kicked in, Eli faced Markus and Nikolai. "Nikolai, take up position with a clear view to the north, any man who comes over the hill firing... mow the bastards down. Markus, go with Sarah and help cover the flanks." A man rounded a hilltop, "Down, now!" shouted Eli, the three men dove behind cover. Eli popped up and let a burst forth from his AK47u, dropping the man.

"I'll be right here, Zoey needs my help, go go go!" Off they went, no more than an hour into their arrival, and war had found them once again. Nikolai set up near some rocks, laying down suppression as three men came over the hill, Markus ran in the direction of Sarah. Eli crossed the hail of bullets and slid behind a rock, not far from Zoey. He shouldered his submachine gun and slid the EBR off his other shoulder. Going prone, Eli cleared his mind and let a bullet fly into the skull of an enemy. He fired, as bullets whizzed all around him. Eli discharged his mag and reloaded another. He looked over to Zoey, his new-found ally, calling out to her.

"We need to get around them! Hold them for me." Eli tossed his EBR to Zoey, it would only slow him down for his next task. Getting on his walkie, Eli sent an order out to Markus, the reply that came back was an understatement, "You're [censored]in' with me right?!" Eli called back over the gunfire, "I wish I were, man! We have to do it, just like the Depot at Anchorage!" Markus didn't respond.

Markus loaded a grenade, it was an incendiary grenade, "Fire in the hole!" With a burst and loud explosion, fire erupted from the site where the grenade landed, immolating several men and creating a small barrel. He did this again, this time a bit further. A third time he did this, then switching back to his rifle and bringing down a few men. "Alright Eli, good luck!"

Eli took off in a sprint, tossing a grenade behind him to give him some cover. Meanwhile, Markus relayed the plan back to Nikolai, who relocated and gave cover fire to Eli. As he bounded over the hill, Eli took a bullet to his chest, knocking the wind out of him as well as knocking him down. Shooting two men, he regained his composure and took an incendiary grenade from his belt and went prone. He quickly crawled through some low brush, and saw a group of men along with much of the main forces who were besieging the camp. Pulling the pin, Eli said a quick prayer and tossed the grenade far. Fire belched and burst, Eli rose up and unloaded his entire clip at the site. He began tossing grenades wildly.

Men kept coming, but they now were fearful. The aim of the plan was to deceive the enemy into thinking there were more men than they thought, as well as to scare them to death. Eli sprinted and leaped back over the crest of the hill. Running to Nikolai, "Gimme you're radio." Nikolai did so, as he continued to lay down heavy fire. Eli tossed the radio as close to Zoey as possible, "Zoey pick up! Pick up the radio, Get your people and press forward! Press back or we WILL be overrun!"

Consistent bursts from what sounded like a SAW light machine gun provided Zoey with enough cover to reload both her weapons, Pistol first then her rifle. Raising her M4 she continued to carry on shooting in short bursts, her Armour piercing 5.56 rounds tearing through the hostiles amour easily.

"Fire in the hole" Zoey ducked behind the rock and turned to see on of Eli's men throw a grenade over her head which nearly fell short on top of her

"[censored]! carefully!" She shouted over the gunfire, turning back she saw several men catch fire from the incendiary, their screams rippled through the night sky as two more grenade's flew out. Loading a fresh clip into her weapon Eli's EBR landed next to her. Eli ran into the fight head first, turning to shoot some more targets she didn't see what he did. A radio landed next to her and Eli's voice crackled over it

"Zoey pick up! Pick up the radio, Get your people and press forward! Press back or we WILL be overrun!" Zoey threw Eli's EBR over back and picked up the radio

"Was just about too! we need to make them think there is more of us than there really is! Don't worry i got!" Zoey connected Eli's handset radio to her throat mic so they where all on the same short length radio channel, she then pressed two fingers to her right ear and spoke to her team

"Sarah on me! Jamie, take the other three to where Sarah was covering and push forward!"

"Have that, you three lets move!" Jamie took the rest of Zoey's SAS squad to where Sarah was stationed as Sarah slid next to Zoey

"Plan?" Sarah slid a fresh clip into her M4

"We're gonna push forward, attack them, fire and move on me. Eli we're moving out, taking it to them out" Zoey spoke with pure confidence

"Have that, lets do it" Sarah smiled as she pulled back the hammer. Zoey raised three fingers and counted them down, when the last finger went she pumped her fist and sped round the rock as Sarah laid down some cover. Stopping about fifteen meter's ahead Zoey laid some cover in a 180 degree ark as Sarah sprinted forward past Zoey for about ten meters reloading her rifle and diving into a prone position. The two repeated this until they where a good thirty meters away from the camp.

"Let's get the [censored] out of here" One of the enemy's shouted, they where the only two left and as they ran Zoey and Sarah let out short bursts and took them down

"Boss, this is Jaime they're falling back over here pulling back to the camp, out"

"Top notch guys, see you at camp, her help me drag him back" The two dragged one of the body's back to the camp to the firelight, pulling of the NVG's

"[censored], just what i thought, Ellis is hiring blackthorn mercs, well [censored]"

OOC: I see Dan has not yet arrived, I hope he won't mind me moving his men off somewhere else.

William only found dead men when he came through the smoke. Almost thirty of them, lying around with many bullet holes riddling their bodies. They all wore the uniform of the Warren Army. This was most troubling indeed, because now they knew they were facing foes that could take down a well manned and fortified outpost.

As the rest of the men arrived on the scene they too, were surprised by the brutal efficiency of the attackers. They had arrived as fast as they could yet the assailants had already escaped. This was probably for the best, there was no evidence to suggest that their rescue party would've fared any better than the platoon of soldiers lying dead before their feet.

As he went inside the actual bunker itself he found only more dead, the cells were empty however. It looked like the rebels had achieved what they wanted here.

An officer shouted out, "Sir! I think I found a survivor!"

He turned around to find one of his men slowly helping a badly wounded man up. However, the moment he saw a string running from the man to something in the ground he knew it was too late. "Get out of here! Its a trap!"

There was a loud click and he heard whistle of gas leaking. At this point everyone was in last minute scramble to vacate the premises, he scrambled up the stairs with incredible speed. He had just reached the door leading to the outside when the mechanism that operated the trap struck a spark.

Fire engulfed the air inside the bunker and for those who could not escape in time the fire engulfed them inside out. Roasting the flesh off of their bones. Nothing was left inside the bunker but charred remains. The fire surged up the stairwell engulfing the few people behind William in heat.

It felt like an eternity but William dove away from the bunker narrowly avoiding the horrible fate of nearly half of his men. Once again, Ellis had gotten lucky. He had been outside when the fuel air bomb went off. Despite having avoided the worst of the explosion William could still feel the effects of the blast. His head felt dizzy from the blast and but he knew the others were probably all feeling the same. He shouted out in a tired voice, "Squad, sound off!"

For the time being however, all of the survivors were still in a daze from the booby trap. They just witnessed half of their number get incinerated in the blink of an eye. William knew in his mind that he was allies with the rebels but now it was a little hard to believe. So far, the only ones to have actually injured him were the rebels. He wondered when he would get a real chance to fight Ellis.

In his dazed state William contemplated shooting Ellis right there and then. He couldn't do it, enough had died for one day. All he wanted now was to get back home. Not the Warren, but home. His real home. The home where he could open the fridge and find it well stocked with food. The home where he could have running water and soap. The home where he still had friends and family. The world he lived in was no home.

William shook his head to get rid of the memories and slowly picked himself off the ground.

OOC: Been gone, Back now. I'll try to post again later tonight, but as I've been saying since the Fan Fic this wasn't intended at first to be a resurrection of the RP but rather a Fan Fic. I can post on the weekends only.

~Ellis: Amidst The Dead and the Dying~

The world moves slowly, cyclically, as Ellis pushes himself up from the ground. Once again the world is on fire. In the distance guns fire, a moment later guns fire from nearby.

He shakily gets up to see little more than devastation. They, he and William, had rashly rushed into the firefight and had found themselves trapped by intersecting lines of fire. Breathing in deeply he turns to see a figure inching around a corner pulling the barrel of a weapon up.

Suppressive fire is his immediate reaction, it is the right one. By firing at the figure he convinces it to return to it's position of safety, at least for the time being.

He turns again, immediate threats eliminated, and takes in the landscape. He had been right. That treacherous **** had killed his men. Many of his men. Many of The Warren. He turns still and catches sight of William.

Not long ago he had seriously considered killing the man. No doubt it would cause some questioning, some loss of faith, but in a situation such as this, in a wasteland that stretched from coast to coast, his leadership would not be abandoned. If there were consensus enough to attempt to turn him away he had the loyalty of his men, and bullets were much mightier than conscience.

Ellis does something he may soon regret, but it is what needs to be done.

He shouts "Retreat!" as he and his men leave the hilltop where so many lives were lost. They will return to The Warren. They will fortify their defenses, and with a bit of luck that little ***** will get what is coming to her.

~Larry: Safe In The Warren?~

In the time since Ellis came to power I have often wondered if I cast my lot with the wrong people. Would I stand up for Zoey, given a second chance? Would it have done any good? Would we be better off with her as leader? These are things I can never know, but they haunt me still.

I sit safely in my home while stronger men fight and die to ensure that I have a home to sit safely in. Other men, also stronger than I, die by their side to take or to retake control of The Warren. It has been this way since the dawn of time.

I see smoke rising from the hilltops bordering The Warren and know that as I sit here wrapped in what was once a picnic blanket not far away men are dying. They are shrieking, they are crying, they are begging for mercy, and inevitably most of them are spending their last moments alive staring down the barrel of a gun, hoping in vain for salvation.

It is safe to say that I am a man with regrets.

~Guy Montag: Looking Upon a Smoldering Firepit~

When I was young people were not very kind to me. I was different, I am different, and they would never let me forget it. I am autistic, they called me [censored]. I was not particularly fond of them.

More accurately I am autistic, an idiot savant to be precise, I prefer savant but then who wants to be called idiot?

They say Einstein was a savant, Da Vinci too. They're both dead though, and I never got to meet them. I hear Einstein used to like to play in fountains and he had a problem losing keys all the time. Me too. The fountain thing at least, there aren't very many keys around here for me to lose. With everyone dead there aren't many locked doors anymore.

I miss people.

I miss my parents. They never called me [censored]. They told me I could do whatever I wanted. They're dead now too though. Dead like Einstein and Da Vinci, only I'm the only one that remembers them. Just me and Mr. Kaplan.

I'm not too good with people, but I remember everything I see. I remember faces, numbers, books, and unfortunately I remember bodies. There have been so very many of those.

I'm going to look into the fire for awhile now.

Goodbye.

History

Many years ago there was a great war. The leaders of our nations at the time allowed the tensions to escalate to the point that was no other recourse but the hell that has turned this world into the wasteland we must all survive in today.

They were immature fools. So concerned with power and prestige that they doomed us all. So concerned with their own fame that they would play for the camera rather than treat these issues with the grave concern they deserved. Bravado rather than humility.

Put enough of these fools in high enough positions and you all know what happens. We are living proof of what happens. Our world is living (dying) proof of what happens.

Still, the fires of nuclear apocalypse were not enough to scour us from this Earth. We dug savagely into Mother Earth, and when it was all done and over we remained clinging to her bosom. We rose up, dusted ourselves off, and got about the business of putting this world back together.

There were only a few then.

Samuel, Zoey, John, Collie, Dan, and a child named Kathy.

Others too, but their names have been lost to history

They fought tooth and nail to escape the smoldering ruins of Wichita and found themselves at what would become The Warren.

In time they made contact with other locals, some who would become friends, some who would become enemies.

They met the Abu Nidal who would become their bitter enemies, nearly destroying the town in it's early days.

They met Doctor Murrow who would plant the seeds that in time would allow The Warren to heal it's wounded.

They met the leader of a local tribe, a most insidious villain who even today plots the destruction of our beloved Warren.

You are no doubt familiar with the story of our betrayal.

The murder of our great leader Samuel Jessop at the hands of the traitor Zoey.

The murder of Collie at the hands of Zoey and her team of sharpshooters.

Have no doubt, they are still out there. Oh yes, cower children, do cower.

She is out there somewhere. So are her men. There are even rumors of a child, a robot, and even a ghoul.

Thank you, my Warren, for allowing me the privilege of being your leader through these harrowing years. I only pray that my legacy will remain untarnished, that in time these threats will be eliminated and we may truly know peace.

~~~
The lies continue. Perhaps this is my penance. Perhaps my sin is too great to be forgiven. I knew it was a lie, I knew it was a lie, I knew the likely consequence of remaining silent, but I allowed the lie to continue just the same. The purges are as much my fault as anyone's. It's too late to tell the truth now. My mountain of lies over the past years far eclipse any truth I could offer today. Even were I to step up and speak the truth, it would only be thought a lie. They would say she has gotten to me. She has turned me. Poor Zoey.
For what it's worth Zoey, I'm sorry.
Maybe I'll just go ahead and tell the truth. Shout it from the mountaintops. I'll be declared a liar, perhaps treason, and I'll meet the same end as so many others who sought to find out the real history of The Warren.
Perhaps today I will tell the truth.
But I doubt it.
