I do not want the finishing moves

Post » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:41 am

at first they will be pretty cool.

but after the 200th time of seeing the same animation, I will just be thinking get on with it.

I have a bad feeling it will delay combat and becmoe tedious in the long run.

I dont want to epically kill everything I fight EVER.

hopefully the finishing moves will only happen 1 in every 30 kills you make.

thought?

What about the 200th time we see someone just flop over from flailing sword swings? Oh wait, we saw that already....

They already stated that finishing moves only occur under certain circumstances... so not every fight/kill.

I kinda wished they could have spent their time on other things than the several trivilties that they are so excited about. I agree with the OP. but I support having as many options as possible so considering its already in, they should leave it in imo.

so what? atleast that didnt interfere with the players movement...

If I am forced to watch something while control of my character is stopped then I will not be a happy about it.

if you've played far cry 2 you know what im talking about.

I think your right. 1 out of 30 kills sounds ok. But they should also make it so it doesnt happen mid-combat. Fighting 4 bandits, and you do a flashy execution on the first one, while getting bashed, stabbed and burned by the other 3... Orrrr, kill 3 out of 4, then do a flash execution on the 4th one, ending the combat.

edit: Or maybe you have to press/hold a button to do these? If so that would make it even greater.

Yap, beeing vulnerable while doing a finishing move (mid-combat) is something to consider, but perhaps they′ll be so fast paced that there will be no major inconvinience in gameplay

What about stumbling, didn't that interfere with movement? Our movement will only be impared for what seems to be only a fraction of a second, and that isn't that bad at all.

Have you watched the gameplay trailer? There is a very short section where the PC kills of an enemy with an axe with a finishing move, it is fast and brutal, it does not seem to slow down combat at all.
It would be so much more pathetic if the enemies would simply die of from the exactly same swing of the sword as the one they just survived, sadly that is the case in every single fight in Oblivion. You do realize that finishing moves includes special sneak attacks such as the one seen in the gameplay trailer? So you only want every 30:th kill to have a cool cut throat finishing move and the rest would have a swing of the dagger.. yay..

a better example would be in aliens vs predator...

as the predator you could rip off humans heads..

but it literally took 10 seconds too long.. all the while you were unable to move (presumebly entertained by the 'cool' violence) while you were being shot to crap.

head rip..

I think we saw one in the trailer with the slow mo arrow kill, maybe thats what finishing move look like for bows. (they wouldn't exclude ranged and magic finishing moves would they?) or maybe they were implementing the kill shots from FO3

they might be pretty quick, if they take the same amount of time as a regular kill then i wouldn't mind.

i wont mind it as long as it doesnt happen every single time we kill a person (lik the stupid kill cam from FONV, if so hopefully we can turn it off).

But the gameplay trailers finishing move was no where near that time cosuming. Do watch it again and take notes on the axe finishing move in it :)

IF however the finishing moves would be like that, then ofcourse it wouldn't be a good thing. But I wouldn't worry too much about that, TES has so much more to offer than mere gory finishing moves, which cannot be said about AvsP :/

I wouldnt mind betting that if this happens you couldnt take damage from anyone. Like you watch it play out and you see the other, in this case, bandits just skirt around you.

Then you would've had to have killed 200 of the same creature in a setting with the same weapon because finishing moves are different from creature to creature and from weapon to weapon. So if you kill a troll with a longsword, it will look nothing like killing a troll with an axe or killing a draugr with a longsword.

tho the "patching the wounds up" animation occured more often than what im guessing the finisher move animations would occur in skyrim, im guessing like everytime u deal with a group of mobs the last one would be executed or something, or atleast i hope its that way

You don't want an integral feature in the combat? Well, svcks for you. Do you really think they're going to strip out a feature that's already deeply ingrained in combat mechanics less than a year from release?

I agree. Vikings the Battle for Asgard used some pretty cool finishing moves, but sometimes there was too many of them. Still an epic game though.... I loved that game... But I see your point. If they Use too many it will get old and tiresome real fast.

I didn't see any slow mo arrow kill. If you mean the wolf scene, you can hold your breath which slows your perception of time so you can aim easier at the cost of stamina.
