Daggerfall quests you thought would be epic

Post » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:12 pm

So I'm sure we've all experienced the anticlimactic feeling of a quest that should've been epic but wasn't. I'm pretty sure my example is one of the new quests added by users in the big quest mod, but still. Mine is the mages guild quest where you have to go kill a crazy mage who took over the mages guild in another town. The questgiver makes it sound like there will be tons of other enemies and that the wizard him/herself will be fearsome. But I went there and all the regular, friendly, 2-d guild members were there and acted like everything was normal....not an enemy in sight...turned around and accidentally killed the "awesomely powerful" evil mage with an accidental swing of my enchanted staff. No other enemies, just one regular mage. Over in 2 seconds. TOTAL letdown.

I hope when DaggerXL is completed that quests like this can be made better, for example by taking out all the regular guild members (as if it were nighttime) and putting in several more enemies. If new classes/characters will be able to be added, I think "boss" mages should be changed to Overlords and still have regular nightblades/battlemages/sorcerers/mages as the head honcho's minions.

Anyone else ever experience the epic letdown, either from a normal quest or mod-added quest?

I don't have many disappointments in quests(I knew from the beginning that Daggerfall's quests are rather shallow), but I was once hired to kill a tiger in the Mages' Guild and I could only wonder why the powerful mages standing around in the guild couldn't kill a tiger and had to hire someone to do it.

They think their research is more important. Their also squishy.

The quest where you have to kill an imp in a random castle was somewhat a letdown. I went in there expecting a fight. It was dead in one hit.

Usually, it's one of the Azimuthal vectors thing. I find the guy I'm supposed to talk to right next to the entrance, he teleports me after a brief chore, and I teleport back once I get the catalogue. Then for my surprise, the item is not available, which happened to me more than once.

I usually pick this quest expecting an epic thing, crawling through three or four different dungeons, but that gets it all over in less than half an hour.

some merchant gave me a mission where i was supposed to steal a sword from an opposing merchant and leave a note. he said I should encounter heavy resistance or something like that.

so when I got there, i stole the sword in front of him, and then proceeded to buy some supplies and sell some stuff to him. it was kind of anticlimactic

The first quest that the King of Worms gave me was kind of dispointing becasue I though that the after going through that awesome dungeon with multiple levels I would have a tough fight but he was rather easy

No, but the only hand-crafted ones that don't get stale as a result of following the same, basic formula are the main questline's quests.

If you download the CompUSA patch and others that add more quests, at least for a while the quests will be more interesting. (Even if they are, when you boil them down, the standard "kill this" or "get this" or "rescue this person" quest)

Was that created by Bethesda? I don't use mods.

No it wasn't. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. No bugs, no bad grammar, and the quests are often actually more intriguing than the original bethesda quests.

I'm just not a fan of unofficial stuff(must be one of the few Elder Scrolls fans like that).
