Morrowind Worshippers/Oblivion Bashers

Just because some one says this thing in Morrowind is better than in Oblivion, doesn't mean they worship Morrowind. And just because they said Oblivion failed in this aspect doesn't mean they're bashing it. Please can we stop it already?

I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoy both games immensely for different reasons.

I can't stand it when people are flamed because of their choice of game. Why can't we just agree to disagree and leave it at that?

It really is pointless. I support this thread. Also, Its one thing to insult a game, but another thing entirely to insult the people who like an aspect of the game that you don't.

The way I see it, the problem with 'Morrowind vs Oblivion' debates is not so much what people say but how they say it.

It seems to me that gamers are particularly prone to think in stark, black-and-white, either/or categories ("This svcks," "That rocks"). Instead of saying "I prefer Morrowind," or "I think XXX feature of Morrowind is better than XXX feature of Oblivion and here's why..." gamers are too often prone to state, bluntly, that Morrowind is better than Oblivion. This kind of categorical, 'opinion-stated-as-fact' way of phrasing a position tends to get on the nerves of fans of both games.

Human beings do not like to be told that their opinion is wrong, that their opinion is less important than someone else's opinion. Primitive 'I'm right, you're wrong' attitudes do neither game any good. It's not designed to open up debate, it is designed to shut down debate - and that makes people angry.

It is this attitude more than anything else, I believe, that poisons the debate and puts a chip on the shoulders of fans of both games.

I wish the argument would stop to. I think most of the problem stems from the fact that most people will love their first TES game. For the influx of people that came with OB it was the first TES game they played and had never played anything like it, therefore they label it as "My fav TES game" so when they play MW they look at it and pick out all of the things that OB had that it doesn't have. And for the people that played MW first then they look at OB and pick out all of the things that MW had that it doesn't. I know I'm guilty of doing this, I like OB but I fell in love with MW way before OB's release.

My first TES game was Oblivion, but I prefer Morrowind by a huge margin.

I definitely agree here. Oblivion fans need to stop acting like every preference for the way something was implemented in Morrowind is a personal attack on them, and Morrowind players need to stop stating everything in a blunt, "matter-of-fact" tone. Especially when Daggerfall outperformed both games in several fields. :P

It is as Pseron Wyrd says. It doesn't help that we're not speaking face to face. We say things over the internet we would never say to each other in person. I like all these games. This forum is perfect for me because my favorite games are Fallout and TES. Even if I like "this" game over "that" one, it's not really saying much. They're all great games.

We really don't need another Oblivion supporters vs Morrowind supporters topic. All it leads to is complaining about one game or the other, we all like different aspects of games, one will suit me more than it suits another person. There has always been and will always be these kind of comparison topics and as long as they are conducted civilly and constructively they will be permitted. Let's leave it at that.
