weapons like tomahawk ballistic knife

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:48 pm

The entire premise of BRINK is to break away from Call of Duty's iron grip on the FPS.

Asking if BRINK is like Call of Duty is a straight out insult.

You are insulted that someone asked if this new shooter is like that other shooter? Really? Get off your high horse buddy. You are the type that give an otherwise helpful community of players a bad reputation.

A simple question about a FPS having similar weapons as another FPS (which it does) should not be met with such hate, it should be answered simply and politely and then move on to the next.

Yes Brink is attempting to go in a different direction than CoD, but its not like its a completely unique direction. It should have the same qualities that make other FPS good, if it didn't then it runs a greater risk of being bad. It should be better than CoD and TF2 because it takes the elements of those games that make them successful, improves on them, and adds its own twist to the FPS genre. There is indeed a basis to compare the two, and hell, you should consider it a good thing that Brink is being compared to what is widely considered the gold standard of the FPS genre. Like it or not the CoD franchise is the big daddy of the FPS genre and if Brink draws positive comparisons and in fact exceeds in aspects that make CoD such a popular game then we should be happy, it will mean that CoD can be bested and by a game that hopefully has better balance and teamwork aspects.

Actually if you hit the femoral artery you could bleed out quite quickly.

I despise COD because it brings barely anything new in its sequels

Most game series are like that to differing extents. CoD is the FPS equivalent of a sports franchise, why people expect huge changes is beyond me. It is what it is and I hope it continues to remain as such, giving players who are just looking to run around and play soldier a place to go. I also hope other studios continue to make new and different FPS games. No reason to hate one or the other.

I have deleted a number of posts from this thread. Rude, unhelpful and flames are going to be dealt with. The OP asked a question that we expect be answered in a constructive and civil way - if you can't do that, don't post.

No. Just no. I didn't mind drilling somebody in the back of the head with a power-drill for a sneaky kill in Bad Company 2, but tomahawks, throwing knives, and ballistic knife are just annoying because no matter where they hit you, you instantly die. Unless someone throw a knife into your chest then you start losing health and the only option you could do is pull it out yourself or get a medic to pull it out for you before your health depletes, but then again I think it won't work here in Brink.

Did you even read my post?

Just because those things are one hit kills in other games doesn't mean they have to be in Brink.

It IS possible for them to be implemented differently in different games.

I suppose the most comparable item in Brink would be the Op Ability "Sticky Bomb"; same vein as throwing knives, crossbows, and semtex.

Armed with a pistol, the knife will do more damage than a rifle butt attack. But the rifle butt attack will knock down an enemy leaving them on the floor for a quick kill if they don't retaliate. BUT the knife slash when armed with a pistol will do more damage, but no knock back effect. It's a fair trade. Other than that no real difference in bladed weapons, exsept for maybe the bayonets attached to some of the guns I have seen in some of the gameplay videos and the gallery on the homepage.

There's bayonets, I seen them in a few videos and probably do more damage.

People have been answering this a bit dismissively. Unusual weapons include mines, turrets, molotovs, the VBR-Belgium (seriously, look up the real life one, it's weird), caltrops, sticky bomb, cortex bomb (which I just realised is a surgically implanted suicide bomb inside the operatives skull. That is [censored] disgusting!), EMP grenade, flashbang, satchel charges, and there's a million customisation options for guns too.

I would like to see a flamethrower like the one in Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Vietnam expansion), Black Ops and Team Fortress 2.

I think a gimmic weapon like that does have a place in this game and it's themes.

No, there are not any tomahawks or ballistic knives from CoD 7 in Brink. SD wants to steer clear from OHKO weapons and unoriginal ideas. Although I believe they are a bit overzealous often times when it comes to the originality part. They need to use some CoD ideas, seeing as how CoD is the king of FPS's.

^^^^^^ That's how you answer a question when someone asks it IN REAL LIFE. You don't insult them and shun them just because they wonder if there are elements from a previous game they played in the new game that they are obviously going to/thinking about buying seeing as how they are on the forums of the game before it's even out yet. I'm sixteen years old and even I know how to show common courtesy. All ya'll that are advlts that flamed him should be ashamed.

Well since there's no OHKO's, weapons like that become less "useless" and more "fun". I think the customization of guns speak for itself in terms of "special" weapons. There can be some ideas of "special" weapons, just what would be there purpose and usefulness?

I consider the minguns "special" weapons because......They just are! With a 200 round magazine!

I run at the sound of the rotating barrel. It screams, DEATH!
