Newbie TES Question

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:10 pm

If this is the wrong forum for such question please move it for me :)

I have had a friend pestering me about getting the Elder Scroll games but i didn't have the time or much interest in the series.. still dont but after spending time reading up on wikia sites im looking to get into it but wondering if i could pick up TES3 and not get lost on some of the storyline stuff or if i should play some/all of the previous games as im a Novel/Book nerd that likes to know all the little details and explore every thing so i can know just about everything...so any help would be great :D

each game is a story in and of itself. you don't need to play any of the previous games to enjoy one or even to understand it. the only advantage playing all the games would be to see the evolution of the games and to learn more about the lore of the games.

You know there's a fourth, as well, right? I definitely recommend all of them, especially considering the first two are free, but your post gave off the impression that you weren't aware of TES IV's existence.

I would say if you don't want to play the older games(I recomend you do if you don't care about graphics) but the newer games are more acsessable. If you just want to read up on the main storylines of the older games I recommend the imperial library. http://www.imperial-library.info/ but even it doesn't give the feeling of playing the games. The games are more a way of telling your own story. Sure there is a main quest but to truely enjoy the game do what you wish to do. you can litterally go anywhere and do anything. Join a guild or just explore its your story. Thats why people love these games. I also suggest if you do get the games PC would be the best place to get them. Arena and daggerfall the first two games are free and morrowind and oblivion both offer much more content in the sense of mods(user made content) that truely changes anything you don't like about the games. I hope you enjoy the elder scrolls.

Well i do know that 4 is out and that 5 is coming near the end of this year but i figured i would start with 3 and work my way up to 5 when it comes out but since im limited on cash $20 dont sound bad for the 3rd game plus expansions

Ohh graphics dont bother me i still play Nes/Sega games lol but i cant go out and buy all of the games right now going to start with the TES3 GOTY and get the rest of the before and after 3 as i got cash to do so

nr: 3 is easier, just install the thing and off you go,the earlier titles is more demanding, well worth it of course but it can involve dosbox,or if you got an old pc around,to run them on,w9x-pc′s for example.
many feels nr: 4 is the easiest of them all,to play and find your way around,it has simplified travels and an universal compass pointing directly at your quest target,nr 3 doesn′t have that.
morrowind aka tes-3 has other means of transportation, easy enough but not that easy ;)
