Pretty much a subjective decision. I suggest you read up on both and decide for yourself. :)

kvatch rebuilt takes you through the whole story of rebuilding kvatch, very immersive and way more natural imo. kvatch aftermath just rebuilds it completely and you cant use it until youve beaten the reclaiming kvatch quest. then it just rebuilds it completely. personally i find kvtach rebuilt the better of the 2.

KA is also reputed to have a lot of dirty edits, which makes compatability a headache.

OTOH, Kvatch Rebuilt has less attractive architechure. There's a third mod, Kvatch Returned (irrc), personally I think it had the most potential, but it was abandoned before completion. You can still find it on Nexus though.

I forgot the name, but there is one where nature reclaimed Kvatch not weak computer friendly, but makes for gorgeous screenies.

Edit: Mod name is Kvatch Reclaimed.

rebuilt is more compatible with FCOM: go for rebuilt + FCOM.

I was really interested in that one when I read it. It sounded pretty cool. Unfortunately if i remember right it was more of an area to take cool looking pictures and didn't really tie into the game. From the outside it looked like the same old place. But when you walked through the gate it looked like a whole different place. I might download KR again in the future after I've started the main quest. But for now I'm enjoying playing with out having to play the main quest.

EDIT: SORRY I meant Kvatch reclaimed

Didn't one of Dragon Captions mods also rebuild Kvatch? I'ts been over a year and half since I played any of those mods but I think they did a fairly good job too.

The three big rebuilding Kvatch mods are Kvatch Rebuilt, Kvatch Aftermath, and Kvatch Rising. There is also Kvatch Reclaimed, which as was said above is basically screenshot eyecandy and not a quest mod.

Dragon Captions was involved in Kvatch Aftermath but Giskard took that private now. He has made yet another Kvatch mod, Kvatch Rising. That one is supposed to be the most lore-friendly of the three "restoring Kvatch" mods.

I have not tried Kvatch Rising yet. Kvatch Aftermath is kind of fun, but it's aimed more at power gamers who want sort of god like trappings - you become Count/Countess of Kvatch rather quickly, you live in the incredibly sumptuous palace with dancing girls, and you fight big battles. Kvatch Rebuilt is more in keeping with the tone of the basic game IMO. You do a bunch of smallish quests that indirectly help to rebuild the city -- stuff like stopping a bandit ring that is robbing supply convoys -- and at the end the city gets back on its feet. You have the option to become the ruler of Kvatch yourself, but it's not automatic.

And yeah, Kvatch Aftermath is just chock full of dirty edits. You basically have to put it first in your load order and hope for the best, because it conflicts with pretty much everything.

Someone actually posted a poll about this pretty recently and I believe Kvatch Rebuilt won out, for all it's worth. KR will be coming out with an update eventually once he's done with an expansion mod for KR. Unfortunately their forums got hacked recently, so I'm not sure where they're at. The hack didn't seem to affect the main site, so hopefully no harm done...

I always play KR, even though it does involve a couple of dungeon crawls with goblins - you have no idea how much I hate goblins, so running a mod that involves goblins tells you how much I like the mod :)

Thanks for that info. I find the descriptions and comparisons very helpful.
