my first computer i bought had millenium............ok nuff said about that disaster. switched to XP and had no issues. i passed over vista because that was horrendous and now i have windows 7 which is greats. they seem to have a good then bad then good then bad etc. thing going on. i really want windows 8 to be good because it supports ARM processors but ..............eh. im afraid of another millenium. has microsoft learned their lesson or is this cycle doomed to continue forever.
Vista SP2 = Windows 7 minus some Aero tricks. It's amazing how much people just say "Vista svcks, Windows 7 is awesome" when Windows 7 is basically Vista in a new suit. Don't get me wrong: Vista originally was delivered in a very bad way: MS didn't go after companies for good driver support, they allowed companies to release Vista on sub-par hardware, and they didn't do nearly enough marketing, but modern Vista is near-identical to Windows 7 underneath it all.
Also: ARM support doesn't mean jack diddly. You probably won't ever see an ARM-based Windows desktop, and because ARM is a different architecture than Intel-based CPUs, it means that no program that works on your current desktop install are going to work on ARM Windows out of the hood -- they won't work until they get recompiled against ARM. More than likely only netbook and tablet versions of WIndows 8 will use the ARM architecture.
Even Microsoft has admitted that Vista was a real flop, so the next Windows version would be a surprise if they do it better than they did with Windows7 I suppose.
Microsoft admits that Vista was a marketing and release flop, which is undeniably true. However, while Vista as a product was a flop, Windows 7 proves Vista as a concept was not --- No matter how many ways you spin it, Windows 7 is Vista with a few new Aero tricks.
