Let There be Darkness not working correctly.

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:25 pm

As i mentioned in the Mod Detectives thread, it appears that the Mod Let there be Darkness is not working as it should. Let me explain...with my previous characters the Ayleid/Imperial ruins and caves(some) did not show those smoke clouds you see in those places in the Vanilla game thanks to LTBD. Which i thought was great because i never liked those smoke clouds anyway.

BUT with my current character those smoke clouds seem to be back, but the Darkness is still as i like it with LTBD? Does any one have any idea as to why those smoke clouds or fog if you will are back all of a sudden.(While they should not be there.) I tried changing the load order for LTBD to see if that changed anything but it did not. Now i do not know all the Mods i use with my current character through and through, but i think that only the LTBD mod changes things in the Ambient light and Fog arrea, or am i incorrect in this?

I have also imported the cells from LTBD with BASH as i have done with other characters, so as far as i know that could not be the cause either?

The Mod itself: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22819

This is my load order:

If you have it as an OMOD, when you activate it, there should be a popup asking you if you want to use "Custom Mist." I seem to recall I always go with _NO_ and have not observed the problem you describe.

ADDIT: love this mod BTW. Cannot imagine how much less immersive the game was before I started playing with it.

Yeah it is a great mod indeed. :)

And since it was indeed a possibility that i installed the version with the clouds i deactivated the OMOD then activated it again and then i clicked no for the special clouds. I then made a new Bashed patch.

My Char was inside his shack in the Imperial City, and i waited 72 hours ingame before i tried the method above. After i hat done that i went in search of a Ayleid ruin i hat not visited before (Vindasel i believe. ) and went in. But right smack at the entrance a mist cloud showed up.

Still thanks for pointing out this possibility, it is probably what i did wrong at the beginning. But some how what i described above did not solve the problem. :(

Try installing the mod manually. You just need the correct plugin. That's it.

I tried that just now, but unfortunately that did not do the trick either. When i enter Vindasel this is the first thing i see.

Do not get me wrong It is not game breaking or something, just weird that the fog stays after trying Anthropoid method and yours. It is beginning to look as if i will have to deal with seeing Fog this time around.

Does any one know if LTBD conflicts with one of the Mods i use then?

I did not know that LtBD did that. That is sweet! Man, I can't wait to play the game again. Was LtBD updated recently or something?

Edit: I do not think I check LtBD thoroughly, but I all I found it did was change lighting settings. I do not recall it doing anything with fog. Have you tried deactivating it?

Heh, thats funny. Sounds like TomLong LIKES the look of the fog that you are trying to get rid of ;) That is the beauty of mods eh? Each to his own tastes.

I'll speculate, since I'm definitely no expert, that when you "turned off" the custom mist it did not actually turn it off; this seems to happen a good deal with OBMM. If it is still bugging you and you cannot get it to fix try this:

1. Deactivate LTBD
2. Uninstall LTBD (meaning, move the LTBD zip folder to a different place, then use the "Delete" function in OBMM and also if you can manually get rid of any files that are strictly from LTBD)
3. Resume your last save1
4. Save it again as a new save2
5. Exit Oblivion Game (I think that skipping steps 3 through 5 but in particular 4 is what seems to commonly result in incomplete deactivations)
6. Reinstall and reactive LTBD using OBMM
7. Click "No" on the Custom Mist
8. Resume save2
9. Fast Travel to the same Ayleid Ruin and see if you still have the mist

If so, it may be necessary to figure out which file is causing it and manually get rid of/change it?

Doing the clean save in the testinghall might help too. I really did not know that LtBD did anything with that. I thought the fog was a vanilla thing, actually...so lost, sorry...

Updating Saves - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=updating_saves <-- This is the COC method. It is similar.

LOL I was gonna say somebody should tell them it's a no smoking ruin when I saw that picture.

I had a problem with the beginning of the game when you go through the prison and cave. For some reason that area is DARK I mean I can't see more then two feet in front of me. Even with a torch. But with any other cave or ruin it works just fine.

That's how it is for me using LtBD and Real Lights. This just seems normal to me with those two...

It's strange since it's only in the beginning dungeon and none of the others after you exit the sewers.

Have you checked in castles that aren't well lit? Where else is there a location that has quite the same settings, castle under-croft, very little light... It is like that in parts of the GTA 1 caves. I think you just need the right comparison medium. It probably has to do with the combination of (lack of) light sources.

I just observed in Fort Empire the same thing that the OP mentioned: fog clouds in the darkness which only show up when I use night eye or a torch. Maybe it is just here and there that LTBD does this?

Hmm makes you wonder how the Fog was edited, maybe by setting the colors to zero? Also when LTBD was working completely for me, i never noticed that torch light or Nighteye showed the fog...this keeps getting weirder and weirder i think?

Well i tried the clean save method in the Testing Hall and the Dummy plugin method, and it did not do the trick either. And i get the fog in all the places that the vanilla game hat them it seems. Oh well i will have to deal with seeing that fog around this time then.

Like Tomlong already mentioned, that is how LTBD should work, it makes crawling through a dungeon/cave etcetera very creepy. Especially if you are out off torches. But i have to agree that this may not be for everyone though, but i really like it. :)

Nearly unrecognisable, but I believe it's almost the same shot (also with LtbD and RL) -

So... yeah, not sure what's going on there.

Although darker then with LTBD alone, yeah that is how it should look.

I think i will have a look at LTBD/real lights combo, does it need to load before or after LTBD?

I think that is how Vidasel would like in my game, but it is in Ayleid Ruin... I thought we were talking about the IC Under-croft...

Edit: Oh, wow, that other picture is really bright. That is odd... Maybe you have a mod overwriting LtBD's lighting changes.

Nah that is just the effect of a ring i made for my character. I am using Nicos Dreadweave Axe mod and did not want to haul around a torch, so the ring has a CE light. :)

I have done this before and it never interfered with LTBD.

*Also, BOSS just mentioned that i should use the Real Lights part from All Natural instead of the original mod due to breaking the Umbacano Collectors quest?

EDIT: Nevermind about the Load order, BOSS placed All Natural - Real lights(Fixed version) before LTBD.

Oh, okay.

Yes. Those do not overlap though, do they? I did not notice you were using the old RL. I only use it because it is included in AN.

Well i was not using the old version but i hat that one installed this afternoon and i then let BOSS sort the list again, at that point BOSS warned me about the problems with the old version and suggested the AN version. Sorry if i did not explain that better in my previous post. And the lighting looks really great now.

So thank you everyone for all the help and mentioning Real lights in here, i may not have gotten rid of the fog but the game looks even better then before. :tops:
