YEAH, the addition of this game to the FPS genre will put the genre on the BRINK of a REVOLUTION.

This is neccessary for the SECURITY of future gamers, who will use this as an example to SOLDIER through the cod look-a-likes and MEDIC this badly injured genre.

This is the clog the gaming world needs to ENGINEER a better gaming experiance... oh yeah, and OPERATIVE.

(IT was a stretch, but I think I made it work :celebration: )

they often bash games for not being CoD

COD gets the same treatment too. Many people will automatically like a game just because it isn't COD. The whole thing goes both ways.

My only problem with CoD is the lack of innovation and new ideas, they've done like 5 games now and they're all the same. Thats just lazy.

Yeah, it isn't a perfect game, but people make it sound like it's the next Atari ET game. I'm guessing it's because COD sold so many damn copies and gained so much popularity and publicity that people suddenly have to hate it.

The problem is who is publishing it. COD4 was a good game (IMO, I know people will disagree with me here) because it didn't stay to the strict timeframe of one game every year, and thus IW had more time to balance it out before release. From there on, once Activision realized just how well COD4 was received, they just milked the series.

In addition, there weren't many new innovations to the game after COD4. Yeah, a few new perks here and there, but COD still falls into the basic concept of run-and-gun, and each new game only tries to impress you/one-up previous titles with better graphics. Gameplay makes a good game, not graphics.

And yes, you see a lot of COD-bashing on here (myself included at one point, I try to avoid doing so now because it has no actual purpose). People are tired of having the same experience. They want something new. BRINK offers that. BRINK deviates from the simplicity of COD and allows for more complexity. That's what the people here have been wanting for a long time.

I think that's why COD hasn't really deviated from COD4. COD4 was praised universally for it's groundbreaking gameplay, so Activision just thought "why fix what isn't broken?"

But I do agree that COD is starting to stagnate. I do love Black Ops, but I might have qualms about buying Modern Warfare 3 unless I see something new.

Exactly. But that's why Activision's falling behind games like BRINK. Instead of innovating, COD just stays there because it knows people are used to the same-old, same-old. And it's been like that for about four years in a row. People are stranding because essentially, Activision is selling you the same game in a different setting with different guns and different sprites. The gameplay never deviates much from its predecessors.

I wouldn't say Activision is falling behind Brink or games like it. Activision has an excellent business strategy that has rewarded it time and time again, it would be stupid to deviate. If Brink (or any other game) ever sold more copies than a new COD game I'd consider Activision falling behind, as it stands they have a huge lead in terms of profit compared to any other FPS game out there right now.

Thing is Bobby Kotic could take a crap in a box write "Call of Duty'' on it in crayon and some people would still buy it. I'm being sarcastic here but you get my point.

Personally I enjoy Cod just as much as most other games. I use it most of the time when I need a break from my other games (lots of RTS, roleplaying) and want to just mindlessly bash on bots for no apparent reason... but thats just my veiw

But that business model eventually dies, look at Guitar Hero, I have a feeling CoD will follow the same fate after MW3.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109421-Activision-Asks-Itself-Isnt-Call-of-Duty-Like-Guitar-Hero-Used-to-Be I'd be lying if I said I didn't think Activision brought up some valid points in that memo.

*puts on flame shield*

I'm an avid COD player. I've been playing since COD4 and I still play it. Personally, I find all the hate on COD a bit irritating. Everytime I see gameplay videos of shooters that aren't COD games, I always see comments like "ZOMG looks better than Black Ops" or "This looks so much better than Crap of Doodie" and "Thumbs up if COD svcks". It's as if COD somehow in its past life was Hitler and is now taking flak because of it. I mean, seriously? Since when was COD supposed to be the next pariah in FPS's? Yeah, it isn't a perfect game, but people make it sound like it's the next Atari ET game. I'm guessing it's because COD sold so many damn copies and gained so much popularity and publicity that people suddenly have to hate it. It's like the whole hate against the Twilight books; yeah, they're mediocre books, but after selling millions of books, the series suddenly received an arseload of hate when there are clearly worse books than Twilight (like the Bible, j/k). Hell, even here I see posts passionately bashing on COD like there's no tomorrow, and that's kind of depressing to see that people become fans of games just because they don't carry the COD title. What ever happened to playing a game because it's fun, and not to rebel against a multi-million dollar franchise?

And before someone here starts calling me a fanb0y (because apparently, anyone who likes COD is automatically a COD fanb0y, according to the haters) I already pre-ordered Brink and am having a hard time trying to hold back my excitement. Yes, I'm aware Brink doesn't have killstreaks, OHK's, auto-aim, etc. But that doesn't mean I enjoy a bit of variety in the games I play.

You took the words right off my keyboard (of course i was too lazy to type them  ) COD is an extremely fun game its just so popular that its flaws get blown out of proportion and other games flaws seem minor.

It hard not to blow the problems out of proportion if you've seen the same ones 4 years in row :whistling:

The only ones that I can think of that appear consistently are OP guns( happens in almost every game) noobtubes(although IMO this was fixed in black ops), and I guess some perks are used more than others. ( there are prolly more I cant think of)

The more successful the game, the more flamers there will be. Brink will be no different if it succeeds. People will find a few issues and target them specifically, even if said issue or feature aren't actual flaws, just a preference. I already know a few people who prefer the realism of one shot kills, such as found in CoD HC modes. What I'm looking forward to most from Brink is the teamplay and objective drive of the missions, rather than mindless killing (though I know there will be the games that'll be one by just brute force). Not everyone's going to be for this, simply wishing for king-of-the-hill matches. It'll be those groups flaming Brink, and even some of you on this forum will end up doing so when the game doesn't meet the high standards we're placing on it. Instead of worrying about other games, I'm just going to appreciate both this and any other FPS out there for their own merits, because you never know when ya just feel like new player-t00bing.

I've played COD mwf2 and i liked how good the frame rate was on console but having been born on RTCW, wolf ET the game just does not compare game-play wise but like someone else said earlier, its the community that makes it so much worse. So a lot of us that hate the game are just acting out towards that community which i think is immature for the most part. Also the immaturity of the COD community has stretched beyond the game as shown in this link.

Read question #6,I was actually looking to buy one of these.
