Question about the Aldudagga

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:09 pm

Hi all. I just read the Aldudagga and I am somewhat confused. Why was the Leaper Demon cursed (by Akatosh I guess)? And who was the Greedy Man? Is the Greedy Man dead, or is he another name for a daedra/aedra?

Essentially, what the hell is going on? :P

The Greedy Man is Lorkhan, who apparently isn't associated with father Shor in the myth.

IIRC Mehrunes the Leaper Demon was cursed for interfering with the creation/destruction cycle of Alduin (Akatosh)

The myth gives Dagon a motive for wanting to destroy Nirn and explains a rivalry between the Prince and Akatosh which Dagon is perpetually losing.

Ah, thank you, the story makes a lot more sense once you know that.

One more question, why is Akatosh eating the world?

"Time devours all" type of thing. Also, to the Nords, Akatosh is the father of the Elves, and as such the bad guy.

Ah, so basically the greedy man (who is Lorkhan) and the Leaper Demon are trying to stop...time from passing? Has Lorkhan already had his heart removed?

Been a while since I read it, but I don't think the Heart thing is mentioned.

I also think they didn't want Time to start at all. The Walkabout and all that.

The Nords do. Dagon and Lorkhan are presented as interrupting Alduin's terrible cycle and enabling the Nords to exist more permanently in the current Kalpa.

If you notice, Greedy Man was devoured by Alduin in the story, which is the same as his dismemberment by Akatosh in elven stories. So this Fight takes place before and after creation. It's the closest thing to a creation myth the Nords have.
