Installing Daggerfall and getting nowhere fast

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:56 pm

I have installed DOSBox with no problems, edited the Config file with no problems
I have extracted the DfInstall file to C:\DosGames

I booted DOSBox and ran the command
mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 1000 - no problems
Then I tried:
mount d c:\dosgames\dfcd -t cdrom -label Daggerfall
and I am getting the message:
Failure: Drive-letters of multiple CDRom-drives have to be continuous

What am I doing wrong?

I am running Windows Vista but the UAC is switched off, so it shouldn't be that problem. I'm dying to play this game - please help a desperate person!

One can try this way of installment: http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=1012957

Right around step three.

Thanks for replying, I tried that as well but it throws up the same error. I'm trying some of UESP wiki's recommendations now, I'll post the results of that.

Well, Wiki tips & hints didn't do the trick either. I think it's a DOSBox hates Vista problem (doesn't everybody).

However, the TES Dos Box Helper seems to have done the trick
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/General:DOSBox_helper

The only issue now is that I have no idea whether the optional bugfixes will be installable. Still, onwards to Privateer's Hold.

Glad you got it working. That error is strange. I've never seen it. DOSbox worked great on Vista when I tried it. It works quite well on Windows 7 too.

Now if I can just get used to the user interface. I just got pwned by a bat :lmao: Then I discovered that seeing as I had not drawn my sword it was no wonder my attempts at swinging it failed miserably. Then I died.

Update:

I finally discovered what was causing the initial error I was getting when I used the Bethesda method of installing.
It was so facepalmingly stupid I am embarrassed to admit it, but it might prove useful to people in case anyone else gets this error.

Basically, my optical drive is not D but E. Once I substituted E for D it all worked perfectly.

Thanks to Aliotroph & Qawsed for helping me.

Interesting. I wonder if it mounts your real drive by default. I've never had any reason to play with any optical-drive stuff in DOSbox, but based on your post I should get the same error. (I installed the game a different way, so I don't have an optical drive mounted.)

I think you are right that it might depend on your installation method. I was using the one Bethesda recommended with the freeware version, I have subsequently realised that this was probably not the better way to do it.

I don't know much about DOSBox but it wouldn't be too strange if it performed some sort of check to see what drives exist when it starts up.
