For performance reasons, dynamic shadows have a draw distance. So further away trees or any object for that matter, wont have dynamic shadows.

And also, at 0:40 like you said, they DO have shadows.

1) Console version, shadows are used at a minimum because shadows are memory hogs.

2) not sure what you mean by this.

3) Not a waterfall, they are white water rapids and that's what they should look like. The other waterfalls look really nice because they are actually being represented as waterfalls. The picture everyone thinks is bad running water on a waterfall is actually just white water rapids which is good looking when you realize what it actually is.

Canopy shadows yes, but I think he means they don't have self shadowing.

Ah, I think I see what you're talking about now. Yeah, what JagarTharn said, it just looks like it has to do with the fact that the tree is higher up, so more light hits it. If not, well, they have 8 and a half months to get it right.

Think he's right about the shadow. There was similar problem in Arma2 that was fixed in a patch.
Not sure about the tree size though. Yes it might make the world appear smaller, but if you reduce them and keep the density, the distribution will seem off. If you then add numbers to compensate, the penalty may get too big.

Now that I see a screenshot, the shadows in the trees do seem off.
Why are the tops so dark? And I can't really make out any self-shadowing.

It's probably a rough copy of the game they showed, the version we play will be a lot more polished

Agreed. Plus it turns out trees are actually that big.... at least where I am from. Maybe OP has small trees :P

No, this will probably be it. Ambient Occlusion will probably not be in the 360 version, which is what the trailer is filmed in.
