If you plan on buying the disk version of Skyrim for PC

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:11 am

If your buying the DVD version of Skyrim for PC it will be using Games For Windows. Just in case people were still wondering. And I'm sure it will be on steam as well.

GfW is *not* GfWL. GfWL is the client we all hate, GfW is a standard that games have to adhere to to get the badge.

This.

It will still use Steam.

They have confirmed time and time again it will be on Steam, they won't ever use Games for windows LIVE after the Fallout 3 fiasco.

Fact: you do NOT own any game you buy with steam. Says so in their EULA, and they can revoke your right to play at any time for any reason.

Yeah, but they don't unless you do extremely serious illegal things or hack the hell out of multiple games and ignore all their warnings.

Even then they only ban you from online play (Unless the account you are playing on is stolen and not yours), they never revoke your account completely. They just say that in the EULA to be safe in case some day something happens where they have to do so and don't want to get sued.

You'll find most companies have all sorts of outrageous things in fine print they require you to agree to before using their services.. it's nothing new.

Steam = Awesome.

Annnndd with that said, this topic is not about Steam so let's leave it there, mmkay?

Yea which is pretty stupid imo. I'd rather get it for my PS3. Yea PC will have tons of mods, But I don't feel like going through crap like that.

And btw switch, I mentioned Steam in the first post, So you can talk about steam in this thread if you need to.

Untrue, the ability to use an account on multiple computers is not only existing, but encouraged. Steam will let you play a single player game on as many computers as you like at the same time, providing only one account is actually set online.

Fun Fact: Read the eula of any product you've ever bought, it's exactly the same. It's ass-covering boilerplate, basically a catchall so that nobody can sue them using loopholes in their own rules. Everything has it, including this website, and every previous elder scrolls title.

Such ignorance.. Because yeah PS3 is so much better where you can have your PS3 permanently banned from online play FOREVER because you plugged in a non-official USB/Memory device/Hard drive..

Steam is absolutely awesome - You get things far cheaper than you do on the consoles and the quality of PC gaming is worlds ahead of anything on the consoles if you have a decent gaming computer, which cost around the same amount of cash that consoles do because of how old consoles are now (5 year old hardware which was considered cheap even back when they were first released).. far better graphics, graphical updates, unofficial patches, mods, cheaper to buy, better frame rate, higher resolution, anti aliasing, ansiotropic filtering, did I mention mods? PC gaming is win. The only reason I see people playing consoles these days is if they are a very casual gamer and not that interested in games/are ignorant to what PCs are capable of and how cheap they actually are.

But yes I've gone over this a million times on these forums.. can't be bothered typing out the same things over and over again anymore :P Enjoy the PS3 version.

fact: Zenimax owns every plugin you make with the construction set.

you don't "own" ANY game you buy ANYWHERE. you're leasing the right to install and use the software. this isn't unique to Steam.

also no don't talk about steam there's enough steam hate threads on the board already.

also "games for windows" just means "this game actually has easy-to-understand system requirements on the back of the package and, as an added bonus, works work 360 gamepads out of the box!".

There are a bunch of steam topics active at the moment. If you want to discuss steam, please use any of those.

There are currently no announced plans for Games for Windows Live.
