I've been a dark elf, imperial, Khajiit, Argonian, redguard and i've enjoy playing a Khajiit and redguard the most, my lvl 68 stealth pickpocket and and lvl 56 enraged warrior are my highest leveled characters out of any elder scrolls game and i've been a hardcoe morrowind and oblivion player and a light player of arena and daggerfall which are extremely complicated to get running on DOSBox given that its different with every operating system. Im going to start as a Khajiit in skyrim to see how much the stealth combat and stealing has improved and ill move on to redguard from there most likely.

Realistically I'm an Imperial/Nord mix. Half German, quarter Norwegian, quarter Swedish.

I'd want to be an Argonian or Imperial. But in all honestly, I'd probably be a Breton/Nord mix. I'm built like a Nord, but think like a Breton.

I've always believed flaunting one's strength is a weakness, and words should come before (Harsh) action. So I identify with the Imperial culture. Nords are pretty ballin too though, because if you're going to flaunt said strength anyway, it helps to have it in abundance.

I never really liked the Mer. I like them from an outsider perspective, but when placed in their shoes, I lose something of the experience. I probably would have liked the Dunmer more, had Oblivion given some real cultural differentiation to the races, and had Morrowind not actually revolved around their culture as a game, since the whole aspect of being a foreigner in a totally alien land was part of the experience of Morrowind. Well, that and really bad combat.

Realistically? Nord, possibly part Breton. Had I the ability to choose and without going with any of the man-races I think I would have gone with being a Dunmer. They look pretty BA.

One interesting thing with this is a lot of people are basing it on their place of birth, not their personality. For me I generally choose Imperial, but this has as much to do with my personality as the fact I come from Britain. I'm a believer in religious tolerance, discussion and discipline. To help expand this, is it possible to identify common personality traits for Tamriel races?

An Orc, with something of a mix between an Imperial and a Redguard mannerisms. Mostly Redguard's though, since I think that the Gilded Carafe is a nice shop with a terrible name.

I've been wondering why people have been basing their TES race on their place of birth or cultural heritage too. Those things do not define us as people.

Probably a Dunmer native born to Morrowind who rejects the Dunmer's slave having, outlander hating ways. I say this because I live in the south, and one entire half of my family (dad's side) are racist [censored] bags and pretty much the cliche' depiction of what you would think when I say "redneck." Whereas my Mother and her side are the exact opposite of that. I'm basing this part heritage and part personality.

Because you can hardly sum up an entire race of people based on your own personality and traits, or that of said races supposed personality and traits. The Personality of each race may be summed up in a Pocket Guide to the Empire but these can be based on stereotypes. Not every Imperial is going to be a believer in religious tolerance, be willing to discuss matters rather than act in violence and train their discipline.

Being from Britain myself, to those from another country and those who don't know me. Will I be perceived by the stereotype that I am posh, and a tea-drinking, loyal subject of the Queen and would throw my life on the line for the British Empire?

But this thread is for fun.

It is based on stereotypes (so you could have a racist Imperial, a law abiding Khajit etc) but for me, when playing a RPG I try to select race, birthsign etc based on what I would be if I lived in that world. So my choice of Imperial is less based on my country of origin than what I see as my main personality traits and the traits of the Imperial. As a British citizen basing your choice on country of origin you could equally choose a Breton or Nord. The reasons people choose a certain race are all valid but for me, it's trying to identify myself with the race.

I personally go for Imperials too. In game I go for personal preference rather than where I was born. My own personality and traits go towards my character, so I could be a total outcast If I played as an Orc. :P In my previous post I said I'd properly be born a Breton because I went for some of the influence behind the race. Since they have Celtic influence and being that my lineage is from Ireland. A prime Celtic nation, that's how I landed on Breton. But like you, I'd go Imperial.

I'm dark blond and blue-eyed from Norway, so I would be a Nord.

I suppose in appearance I look sorta Altmerish-Imperialish, although if I were to choose I'd want to be a Dunmer or maybe an Argonian, simply because they're cool. I'm not sure whether I could class my personality or beliefs into a race, perhaps because I don't know enough about that sorta thing :P
