Suggestion: The Elder Scrolls Travels on iPhone

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:43 pm

I was given an iPhone for Christmas and was browsing a few Steampunk sites for backgrounds, apps, etc. and people kept mentioning a Wolfenstein RPG on the iPhone. As skeptical as I am about portable gaming (You burned me before Ngage and other lying gaming phones! I'm onto you!)... I found it on the app store, dl'ed it and LOVE it. It's perfect for a pint sized gaming device like an iphone. Then I started thinking even further on the potential for the iPhone. Half the N64 games I played, SNES Final Fantasy games, so many GBA games it's sickening.

And then...

HEY! The Elder Scrolls could make a metaphorical killing (probably literally as well) if they reproduced their old TES Travels games, or even attempted ports of the classics like Arena and Daggerfall.

There's a game called RavenSword, that while I'm unfamiliar with it... looked a lot like Daggerfall to me. I'm gathering that this could be a great idea.

Just thought I'd toss a line here, since there's no feedback/suggestions forum.

The iPhone seems to be here to stay with the sheer number of sales and support system for app developers. Digging into this couldn't possibly hurt!

I agree please do this.

But not exclusive to the iPhone.

There are a lot of iphone fans among the Bethesda developers, and John Carmack of id software has spoken favorable about developing for the iphone, so I think an Elder Scrolls game for the iphone is a distinct possibility. (As is a Fallout game for the iPhone)

Well they've been developing an iPhone game for quite some time now, so it could be something like this.

I quite agree. I'm actually working on some characters/creatures for Ravensword II at the moment (If the Unity/Apple things gets resolved). You could create a very nifty TES game on the iPhone/iPad.

Hmm, wow! Was quite a fan of Ravensword and did take a look around your website awhile before! It's good to know you're on a good project and that there will be Ravensword II.

Anyway, back on topic: I think that even if one gets created, what needs to be taken into consideration is what other platforms will be able to run it.

Take for example the Android. They just hit 50,000 apps in their appstore, and I use an android phone and an ipod touch, meaning I can safely say that the android is at the equivalent level of the iPod in function. I wouldn't be shocked if it hit an iPod only market, but there is the consideration of other devices to be had, even if they are a dumbed down title. Android is beginning to become a prominent phone OS and needs game support.

I would buy that, but would the DS be able to handle daggerfall on a technical scale?

If the DS can't handle it I doubt the Iphone could. Plus it would be a challenge to get a good interface and control scheme working on the iphones small touch screen.

Trust me, the DS could handle it, and then some. Although I'd prefer a remake, rather than a straight port, (for example, they could make things a bit more "modern", such as how you can't tell when someone's supposed to be an elf in the original, and the whole "Atronach/golem" thing could be resolved- plus they could give us playable Imperials) but I'd be happy either way really.

For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgNcVoxyHAk&feature=related, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX4rEgBzsp8. If you ask me, both games are far superior, graphically speaking, than Daggerfall.
