AE HERMA MORA ALTADOON PADHOME LKHAN AE AI

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:28 pm

Here it is, the final words in the book "Sithis," which asks you to "go unto the Sharmat Dagoth Ur as a friend:"

AE HERMA MORA ALTADOON PADHOME LKHAN AE AI

Yeah...what does this mean. I feel it goes somewhere along the lines of something like "hidden knowledge as a weapon from/on the Padomaic Lorkhan?"

I still haven't pinpointed the meanings of the words "AE" or "AI" but i have vague ideas.

You're pretty close, best I remember it's something close to "Unperfect/Unstable weapon of Padomay is Lorkhan [and I?]"; relating to the line "Sithis begat Lorkhan and sent him to destroy the universe. Lorkhan! Unstable mutant!" I'd presume...

I think AE is used to convey a notion that is partly "and", partly "with" and partly "is"... SEHT AE AYEM AE VEHK.

Yeah but what about the "HERMA MORA" part? Herma Mora, or rather Hermaeus Mora (sp?), is the Daedra Lord of either Knowledge or Hidden Knowledge, depending on the Pantheon.

And so it's Mora now, you say?
As from the Divine path you stray
ALTADOON PAHOME LKHAN AE
Will not keep the Black Sea at bay

Cheap leaps to subgradient [Z]
Have been tried and failed by wiser than thee
No, only Love is your weapon true
To avoid a Landfall looming just for you

Bow thee now to JHUNAL the Just
And steel yourself for what you must.
His mighty arm shall hold you tight
And guide your faltering steps into the Light

I have heard, though not from you
That those who reached it there are few
And far between
Look close at [I] and see what I mean

Some call it Heaven
Some call it Hell
Turn the Disc sideways
And see where [I] do dwell

You'll not be alone
You'll not be together
Every rock
Every feather

All questions answered
All answers mystery
Take the Tower and all its/your Power
And study the CHIM-istry.

That is all, my friends or foes
I leave you now to the path you chose
You are safe, but for a time
With naught but Landfall and this Mora rhyme.

I'm still doing some reading into what you've written, TWM, but a quick glance at the 36 have kinda helped me take another crack at a translation.

Could it be "And the weapon of invisible knowledge of Padhome, Lorkhan, and I?"

edit: I'm probably wrong, but I'm starting to think AE can mean "that is." Someone shut me down if I'm wrong.

Notice how lost of Romance languages have nice little short verbs of being?

In Latin: Sum/Est
In English: To Be/Is
In Spanish: Ser/Es

AE sounds similar and works similarly, suggesting interchangeability and working a little like an equals sign.

AE is more significant than just being a copula. It's a powerful connector...and/or separator.

Perhaps it means "Hidden knowledge that is the weapon of change, Lorkhan that is I?" If that's not the exact meaning, I think it's damn close.

Perhaps the book meant to go to Dagoth Ur like Lorkhan when to the Aedra: with a hidden agenda; as a friend. And I wish it wasn't that obvious 'cause I wanna actually feel smart. -_-

Forgive the thread necromancy, but I was about to post a new thread on this topic, but then found this one (figured out what to search), and realized that my new thread would end up going exactly the same as this one... without entirely answering my question. So I figured I'd post in this one, to remind folks of what has already come before, so I can clarify my question.

AE seems to be used in places as a connector, in other places not (AE comes at the beginning of the sentence here). But I've gathered that we're as close to a meaning on that as we're going to get. Does anyone else have any further insight as to the use of that word?

I also want to clarify: Do we officially not know what "AI" means? I noticed some attempts at translation of the whole passage, but nothing for this single word.
