Thief Gold installer not running

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:46 pm

Hi CD. I'm trying to reinstall Thief Gold for some good old fashioned stealth gameplay, but the installer isn't running. I've tried going through the Run function and using lgntforce to bypass the NT kernel (whatever the hell that means), but still setup does not run. I'm trying to do this on Vista (I know, shoot me). Can somebody help me out.

I'd like to know also, because I tried to reinstall Thief Gold on my current PC with Vista and couldn't get it to work either. It worked on XP a few years back. I hope Windows 7 is compatible with older games more than Vista.

Besides doing http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031#install, I'm not sure what the deal is.

Tried that. Even tried altering my USER.cfg file to skip processes but it's a read only file and even with admin privileges I can't change it for some reason.

I keep holding out for a re-release from Eidos/Capcom in celebration for Thief 4. Failing that, I'll buy the thief collection, but I've read that it's claim to "XP compatibility" is inaccurate... <_<

XP? Ha. I wish. That would be comparatively easy to get running.

Hmmm. Over an hour after I originally tried, setup suddenly opens about fifteen times. It was as soon as I closed Chrome, which had been running since before I tried to run setup, but I have no idea if that had anything to do with it.

So for those running Windows XP and onwards I can only recommend that they use lgntforce in the Run function, close everything and be very patient. Of course we all know that installing Thief is just the tip of the iceberg on modern operating systems.

Woops, double post.

Which collection? The one from http://www.mastertronic.com/productMastertronic.asp?pid=823&productLabelID=2? Usually their updated versions of games work just fine for me. (I've got a copy of Deadly Shadows from them, but not the complete Thief collection. Deadly Shadows works great, though.)

Yeah, that one, the UK publishing. The other packaging I've seen is http://cgi.ebay.com/THIEF-I-II-III-COLLECTION-PC-Games-1-2-3-XP-DVD-NEW-/300544066745?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item45f9d284b9. Sold Out Software, last I saw, only has Thief 1 & 2 pack, and then a separate Thief 3.
