Lord of the Rings Mod

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:54 pm

Hey guys! Hey Bethesda!

Most of you ought to know about at least two major attempts to create a lord of the rings mod for an elderscrolls game: one for Morrowind and the other for Oblivion. Now there is going to be Skyrim and the question I want to ask is whether the new construction set will have enough utilities/capabilities and less limitations for a huge mod or even complete overhaul as a lord of the rings mod would most certainly have to be. Of course I'm a huge fan of the elderscrolls series but in fact I've ALWAYS wanted to play a openworld game of LotR (sorry, but LotR online svcks and does not fullfil my desire = P ). Since there will be even DRAGONS in skyrim i think there'll be some awesome modders out there who could design a balrog who would use a similar AI as a dragon and implement dragons like smaug, too. I've been thinking of a LotR mod which puts focus on the early days of middle earth or something like that, too.
Well hell yeah, Bethesda, just get that stupid license and do it on your own ... before rockstar does ;-)
Anybody with this idea?

Skyrim for the win!

A huge open world game is probably capable of creating a huge open world mod.

I'm not sure if this is helpful but interesting enough, Midas had a balrog in his Midas magic mod, which was scary, awesome and was just plain amazing especially with its flame sword.

Well, most people thought that Oblivion was a huge open world game and ... ehm it did not work 'cause the terrain they could produce was about 1/10 of what they'ld need. This problem did not exist with the morrowind construction set. but there were other problems instead = S

The problem with MERP is that they're trying to make a world 7x bigger than Cyrodiil, which is VERY ambitious.

MERP will never get finished, at least not until we are probably up to Elder Scrolls 8.

Its far too big and ambitious a project.

Have you tried out LOTRO?

Inb4 copyright infringement :whistling:

On topic: I'm a huge LOTR dork, and for years I've wanted to experience Middle Earth in a well-made game, but unfortunately that illustrious license is being milked for all its worth in the videogame medium with sub-par games. Anyway, LOTR mods in TES games are always interesting to check out, but in addition to being a LOTR dork I'm also a huge TES dork and I prefer my TES games to be experienced in the amazing world they were created for; Tamriel ftw

I wish they weren't trying to make MERP so huge. I want to be able to play in it with some quests...they'll be stuck on the world creation until god knows when. Scripting will never be done :(

Nehrim for example.

I would have loved to play MERP, but i think it's still in it's beta stages. If it doesn't finish soon, i doubt many people will bother with it when Skyrim is released. :(
