The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:34 pm

Okay so I just remembered about this game after i got bored and looked through the old gameinformer and saw a few screenshots. Looked it up and still no news. So look a bit more and it's either MIA/cancelled/or TBA. So i was wondering is there ANY way for Bethesda to begin working on it again?Although chance seem small....*ahem* Fallout 3 tyvm. So i dont know oppinions or ideas on ways to encourage a company to begin work on a probably awesome game?

Wait, is this a second ES Travels or the origional one they made/ are making? At least I thought I saw an ad some time back for ES Travels on hand held devices (cell phone etc).

Well, there was a phone game that was released (IIRC), and there was also a PSP (or some other handheld device) version that was supposedly planned. If you mean the PSP version, then it's been dead with a "do not resuscitate" label for a long time now. It's doubtful they'll ever finish it. I don't know why they ever tried in the first place; cramming a game like Oblivion onto a handheld device is downright ludicrous.

I dunno. I mean yes it would be quite an undertaking but in no way would it be impossible. In 2007 it was near impossible but now alot of the games have a data install feature which as long as you got a decent size mem. stick you can just play from that or at leat on the Gos but it shouldn't be too hard to do on the 1-3000 versions. With that i really don't see why they can't do it now

Yes, but Oblivion is ridiculously processor-intensive, as well as GPU-intensive (and by extension, PSU-intensive). I don't know what these handhelds have in terms of GHz, but 3.0+ GHz is recommended for Oblivion. In the graphics department, most of the cards that can do Oblivion justice weight about 3-5 pounds and are larger in all dimensions than the handhelds on which the game is propsed to be ported to. And they tend to require 500+ watt power supplies. I know of no handheld that crams a 500-watt power supply into its frame.

The only solution would be to re-optimize the game for PSP usage, which would essentially be remaking the game. There's no way Bethesda is going to do that.

The PSP version of Oblivion was never intended to be the same as the version released for PC/360/PS3. The PSP version didn't have any outdoor areas, it was a dungeon crawler with 10 large levels and used new art for the graphics, which looked quite good too. Sort of like Battlespire but with the Oblivion storyline, I guess.

Not that it matters though, the game development of the PSP version was cancelled long ago. The developer studio gamesas hired to make the game was shut down.

I think the "Travels" idea was "before its time". I think NOW is a great time for another Travels game. Are you listening Douglas? ;)
