Life After Death

I got that feeling too, considering the ruins of Vvardenfell are filled with intriguing stuff, yet you don't see like, what, three people studying it? Or even applying it? Although it makes sense there since the Dunmer think the Dwemer were all blasphemous and what not.

EDIT: to, too two, sheesh, stupid English language.

But you have the cosmopolitan imperials, who arent afraid of such things. The ald Ruhn mage's guild steward seems 'keenly interested' and downright 'dedicated' to studying dwemer technologies and culture. I'd say the paranoia about technology is mostly a dunmer thing-- though the altmer might also hold such superstitions.

However, even with necromancy being banned by the cyrrodiil mage's guild, you dont see even ONE golemologist. In previous TES games, you had things like "Iron atronachs" and the like, as animated synthetic constructs. Has anyone seen any since? Where did they go? Why?

Mundus is different in this respect considering that when a Mortal dies he does not remember or retains anything. It's also constructed to be constantly changing so I would assume that when a spirit dies, it just gets all mashed up with all the other spirits and a scoop is taken out again to form a new person or creature.

Well, if the Nerevarine truly carries the soul that was once Indoril Nerevar, then no, because the Nerevarine's race is entirely dependent on the Player's choice.

If both of these statements are true, then one could reasonably state that the Nerevarine is NOT special in any way in that ANYONE could have been the Nerevarine due to many people walking around Mundus at that time probably had pieces of the original Nerevar in their particular "scoop". Does this lend credence to the contention that the Nerevarine had to do certain things before becoming the Nerevarine? If so, then I feel a little better about jumping through those hoops prior to defeating Dagoth Ur. I had thought, "why does it matter whether the Houses call me Hortator? I'll just go kick his (censored) and be done with it."

I guess what I'm saying is that everyone had pieces of "Nerevar reborn" via the recycling, but the Nerevarine can only come about through actions.

But doesn't this sound more like "mantelling" rather that "reincarnation"?
Mantling and incarnation are separate roads; do not mistake this. The latter is built from the cobbles of drawn-bone destiny. The former: walk like them until they must walk like you. http://til.gamingsource.net/obscure_text/nu-hatta.shtml

WMOJ that is a great question. The whole idea of reincarnation has bothered me quite a bit, but this sounds more logical. Though getting mashed doesn't sound that great either. Maybe I should take my Sheogorath staff back from my doppleganger and figure out some way to ascend. If we are part of the divine spark of Nirn, does that mean that all mortals have part of the soul or spirit of Lorhkan?

I presume this is a very slow process though considering Nercomancers can call back spirits to animate a corpse and we can still have a somewhat coherent talk with people like Pelinal (they seem to be outside of time though).

How do they get outside time? Through manteling or ascending?

Proweler, are you sure that in TES the souls get mixed together? What are your sources for this?

I have to admit that I don't like the idea of individuals losing themselves permanently when they die. Being "mashed together" is another form of permanent death for the self.

Not neccisarily... there is a VERY VERY small chance that you could get directly reincarnated. Think of it this way. You have a bag of marbles of mixed colours. You reach in, and grab 5 marbles. This represents a soul. You drop them back into the bag, and shake it up. (this is death). You then reach back into the bag, and pull out 5 more marbles. There is always a VERY slim chance that you will scoop out the exact same 5 marbles again. Same thing here.

Just circumstantial stuff.

1. Mundus was to made to be a return to the flux and be always new.
2. I ARE ALL WE.
3. Different cultures observe different gods, yet they are all slightly the same. This would be impossible if they couldn't swap some aspects of themselves.

However, Azura claimed she "sheltered" his soul, so if the "mashed up" theory is correct (which i personally don't belive it is) then his soul wouln't have been mashed up due to Azura meddling and when a "scoop" was taken, it would have been the same scoop as Nerver had, minus the memmories.

If we accept the statement that Azura sheltered Nerevar's soul, thereby preserving his individuality from being absorbed (and therefore lost) in the mixing back towards the whole, then do we have an explanation of why the Nerevarine could have been of any race and, no matter what race, did not retain any memories from his (or her, by the way) previous life?

It would seem that a soul preserved, such as Pelinal's in Knight's of the Nine, retains memories even past the veil of death. Why was it not so (besides gameplay issues) for the Nerevarine?

Maybe souls start to go 'off' the longer you keep them in a bottle? Kinda like a jug of milk past expiration........?

So I guess a soul CAN go from white to black after time....because it spoils and starts to stink? :frog:

THEREFORE, I state that black soul gems are evil because they are biohazard containers!!!!

IN ADDITION, I furthermore sayeth, now and forever, that I, at times am full of (censored).

I, too, am a BLACK SOUL GEM!

It's both -- the latter is its "natural" purpose, and the former is the way that it is exploited by those who can tap into it -- namely Elder Councilors and Battlemages and the like.

Are the Elder Councillors really elder than other equally proficient mages? Namely the Telvanni of the Dunmer nation? Elves live a long time, men for only a few scarce generations, and yet it seems these men have acquired such awesome knowledge in their scant years, yet the ages old Telvanni know nothing of this dimension, or, how to utilize it in life.

Dude, totally a cookie cutter fantasy cliche. Don't even go there.

You can sort of think of it as an oversoul for the world. Everybody is connected to it, and when their anchor to this world breaks (when they die) they go there; in the same way since it's connected to everybody, you can use it as a crude sort of telepathy device.

No, the Elder Councilors aren't particularly great magicians, they just have knowledge of it. And nobody ever said that the Telvanni know nothing of it, I wouldn't doubt (though there's no proof) that they might use it to communicate with their 'mouths', making the term slightly more literal in meaning...
"The dreamsleeve is a conduit for sending special transmissions. Used by weirdo magicians and Imperial clerks, mainly. Kinda like myspace...only to reach it one must have at least part of their brain constantly meditating, because one aspect of the conduit is that it is able to carry images of concepts not yet "real"."http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=482103&hl=dreamsleeve

It's something that probably wouldn't be mentioned in game I admit.
