Bigger small towns?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:51 pm

Is there a mod that makes a lot of the small towns bigger? If not, what are some of your favorite mods that increase the size of small towns. I'm just getting sick of seeing three houses and having it be called a town. Thanks, all. :)

I haven't played Oblivion in a while, but I think there's one called Better Cities?

Yeah, but that only affects the cities. I want one, or several, that change small towns. (Pells Gate, Water's Edge, Aleswell, etc) I already have afk_weye.

Well, if you're like me, there's only one place that qualifies as a city - Imperial City. The walled "cities" are all town sized, the rest are just villages, and in some cases literally just an inn.

There was once an effort to expand on the vanilla villages to turn them into something more, but Aleswell appears to be as far as things ever went.

I totally agree, Arthmoor. I would get Open Better Cities (I would get the ones where they're in their own ws, but I hate loading between cities) but IDK how much of an FPS drop it will cause, and I'd hate installing it to find that it makes my game look like a slide show.

This is a good idea, actually. Right now there seems to be a deficit of mods that overhaul the plethora of small villages. Beth quests barely use the small villages so they should be good for modding.

Definitely. I do have a concern, though: Would revamped small towns conflict with Unique Landscapes?

I am still working on http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1093783-req-a-shezries-towns-request-thread/page__p__15967678__fromsearch__1&#entry15967678 which gets ever closer to release, it does not conflict with Unique Landscapes as the team hasn't built there yet. However Pell's Gate does not actually touch the vanilla Pell's Gate in order to limit conflicts and preserve whatever quests are already there. Instead the vanilla village has become the outskirts of a large Pell's Gate town and is renamed Pell's Gate Village.

I don't know of anyone else working on expansion however I thought there was someone trying to do them all and got some uploaded on Nexus.

Also, this may make a good ORE challenge, a pick a vanilla village and revamp it challenge.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27125 Don't bother asking me if it's compatible with x,y or z, since I don't know or care. :D I love this mod too much to ever consider removing it.

I'm sad. This mod looks perfect, but it will almost certainly conflict with Region Revive-Lake Rumere's version of Weye, and I'm not going to give RR-LR up. Also I suspect that it will conflict with Arthmoor's Faregyl Village. If only it was modular :(

Yep. Pretty much the same reasons I had to sideline MTC as well. Clashes with AFK_Weye and with Faregyl Village. Being modular would be nice. Can't ever have enough good villages :)

Now THAT'S a challenge I'd jump for again. :D and have trouble only staying to one village.

Heh. Something I'd even consider throwing my hat in for. I guess it depends on how loosely "vanilla village" is defined. :)

Something like this would be an awesome addition to the quest for a perfectly revamped Oblivion. If there was ever a concerted effort to revamp the villages, it should of course be made with compatibility in mind; UL is a must, and any popular mods that add quests and such to the vanilla villages.

That MTC villages mod looks pretty cool, very close to vanilla, yet a bit more expanded - I wonder if there would be much conflict with UL. Unfortunately, it's been mentioned that it surely conflicts with some other fairly popular village mods. Modularity would be nice.

Meek, your Pell's Gate looks awesome, very atmospheric. The Soldier peeing in the alleyway is a great touch. I would almost say the mod is overkill, but that would be silly of me. The only reason it seems big is compared to the 3 building settlements in the vanilla game. On the other hand, what you've done, (or in the process of doing) is to give us another small town, which is even better.

A contest might be a great way to get people interested.
