Books and Lore missing from Oblivion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:44 pm

I would like to know of any books or lore you think should be added to Oblivion. I am making a mod and plan to add many new books and try to include lore from past games and stuff that wasn't really explained well in Oblivion. Any comments would be great, if you want to submit a whole book, contact me at dwayne_sykes@dishmail.net (credit will be given for any material used in the mod).

Just for reference if you don't know about it, check the left hand menu of http://www.imperial-library.info/ to find the books from all the past games...

As Luagar2 has pointed out, the Imperial Library lists all literature from all Elder Scrolls games, except for most in-game dialog. So, if you're looking for a book, that's the place to go. Each book even has a small description so that you do not have to read the thing to know what it is about. Cuts down on the "I'm looking for..." time.

Thanks for the link but I have already been going over them. I am obviously not going to include all of them but I am think I could use quite a few.

In that case, I am surprised that the http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/lessons.shtml were not added to Oblivion. Additionally, the all-important http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/anuad.shtml and http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/monomyth.shtml would have been nice to have seen.

There wasn't any reason for it to be in Oblivion, or in Cyrodiil for that matter. There were only a few copies of each book in Morrowind, so it wasn't widely circulated even there; mainly because its not really a major religious text for the Temple, but rather a guide for the would-be Nerevarine/Hortator. No reason to have a Hortator handbook in a place where there's no potential for having a Hortator...

Of course, that's not to say I wouldn't like to see it in there...

I would agree, Luagar2. With the xenophobic ways of the Dunmer, plus the intended listener not being in Cyrodiil, there would be little reason in the lore for it to be in TES IV. Nonetheless, they were just too freakin' cool to deny new players.

Any books or lore not in Oblivion are specific to the regions they are typically publised in. The'36 Leassons' for example is a regional sepciallty of Morrowind, so you wouldn't find many copies, if any in Cyrodiil. Wouldv'e made a nice easter egg though, and I hear there is a few mods which introduces those missing texts.

I think all these books from past games are already in http://wrye.ufrealms.net/Cobl.html#LoreBooks.

Though you could add in the books from http://www.imperial-library.info/bsbooks/ that did not make it to http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/#battlespire, and likewise for http://www.imperial-library.info/rgbooks/. Shadowkey books are of no concern, they're actually just little notes and letters. The only parts that could fit in a book were fragmentary, and I put them together, adding some glue of my own, to make a book that is in Cobl too.

Yep, Cobl has most (all?) lore books. If some are missing, then please drop a list of missing books on the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=818244 topic and I'll add them when I get a chance. (Doesn't look like many if any are missing, so this would be pretty easy to do.) (Of course, sending my an esp with the missing books would be even better for me.)

I'm making a Cobl version of my mod by request. I was actually looking more for something other than Morrowind stuff.

EDIT:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Kagrenac%27s_Planbook.Shift I didn't spell it right at first.there is also a journal, and you could make books from like the Egg of Time and the others using, the philosphies of the early translations in Morrowind by,Yagram the last of the living dwarves, also the Telvanni in Gnisis. And also the Hanging Gardens.

And you expect me to do what with this? It says
[The contents of this handwritten journal are in an unfamiliar script in an unknown language. There are many complex diagrams heavily annotated with numbers and strange symbols. The title page, however, is clearly marked in Ald Aldmeris -- 'Kagrenac's Planbook'.]

Right you are,And more importantly these are the books of the man responsible for the tools that led to the Tribunal, you will find them on Red Mountain,A proper translation would be nice,it has been a while since I did it but if I am not mistaken the last of the living dwarves gives you some insight into them but not much I have tons of theories on the dwarves. But I want to know exacatly what was happening and the components to these tools. Most all of my lore comes from playing the game through all these years,I have read some things on the internet recently, but alot of times some of this information differs from in game lore.

And who could translate them if they're untranslatable? It's an engineering book for creating with sounds and myths a giant robot that will reach godhood by refuting existence. There are no ways to render this in English.
