Why is Cyrodiil no longer a jungle?

I'm pretty sure the devs didn't just say, "Screw the lore, its gonna be a forest".

 I'm pretty sure that's what they did!

Tons of games are set in forests. Not many are set in lush, verdant, exotic jungles - at least, games that don't have guns and involve smuggling and stuff.

But, as has already been mentioned in the thread, the jungle loss is symptomatic of other things that were 'lost' - a distinct Imperial culture to go along with the race, believable political systems and hierarchies, a sense of history to the game world, of a past - even a fictional past! - that is recognized and mentioned by the NPCs.

To me, there was a great feeling in the town/city layouts that these were not cities that were constructed hundreds of years ago, that had generations of inhabitants. Rather, they felt like they had been laid down not ten years ago.

Actually, somewhere on the first page, I read that the jungle was cleared to make room for farms and cities (which as you pointed out, don't look old because they aren't), and there was the whole two sides of the word jungle and that its not necessarily a subtropical rainforest.

The jungle clearance is fan apologism, not something found in the lore. Bethesda didn't bother to explain why it happened because they didn't want anyone to pay attention.

But nice try using it to dismiss Alaisiagae's post- the part of the issue that actually matters. We can only infer that depth and creativity did not work for some reason. But who cares. It's only a game and doesn't matter, although it is paradoxically worth defending on the internet.

The 'temperate forest' weaseling is [censored]. It's what people say when they haven't actually read about the subject. The lore uses words like subtropical, temperate, jungle, and rain forest, and their use is not ambiguous.

so we can infer that a jungle didn't work.

'I'm sure they have some good reason for it...'

I hope you don't vote.

Not to mention that if you clear-cut the Amazon you don't get Maryland...
