A few KotN questions.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:05 pm

So I'm in this RP over in the fan fic section. I'm playing the current Holy Crusader of the KotN.
Currently we're at war with the redguards and I have some questions that would aid me in this RP.

How loyal are the KotN really to the empire? What comes first, the devines or the empire?
Would the KotN kill innocents if they knew it was for a greater purpose? (The empire winning the war)
Is the empire concidered to be in favour of the nine? If so then helping the empire would be helping the devines. Correct?

1. They aren't called the Knights of the Nine for nothing. They don't seem to be in he service of any earthly ruler.
2. They would only do so if it would help save more innocents. And I don't really think that the Knights of the Nine would really help the Empire win a war, unless it is for the good of Tamriel.
3. The Emperor was warned about the Oblivion invasion and one of the Divines is a former emperor. You take a guess.

Or as the Imperial Cult priests in Morrowind put it:
Our doctrines are simple. We acknowledge the divinity of the Nine Divines: Akatosh, Dibella, Arkay, Zenithar, Mara, Stendarr, Kynareth, Julianos, and Tiber Septim. We preach the Nine Virtues: Humility, Inspiration, Piety, Work, Compassion, Justice, Ambition, Learning, and Civility. Our Emperor is the Defender of the Faith, and the Empire is the worldly working of the Divine Plan. We pledge aid and comfort to all citizens in need, and serve the Emperor and Empire at his will.

I'm no expert, but I sincerely doubt that killing innocents would ever be condoned. The knight who lost the gauntlets killed a beggar and his gauntlets sat on the floor of the Chorrol chapel until the DC went and retrieved them.

I would think that the Divines come before the Empire, but that the two are really rather entwined as Talos is/was a Septim. I guess that with the Septim line being broken, that they might fall more to being under the Church's jurisdiction as opposed to the Empire. (Like the Blades being under the command of the Emporer and not the empire.)

Just my thoughts.

Because the Nine Divines say that killing elves is bad. And since they are the boss we do as we are told. :P

No killing innocents.
Except maybe a few Elves and anyone who could be considered a Deadra worshipper.

That was back when they had enslaved all the humans in Tamriel.

Not related... not directly.

The Knights of The Nine were NOT with Pelinal when he was alive. They were formed after his death, a long time after his death actually. Pelinal was not only mad, but also an aspect of Lorkhan anon Akatosh. What he did had very little to do with the other divines.

The knights on the other hand view things rather black and whitey and wouldn't kill innocents and the like. They are a romantic-knight made manifest. Of course.. there never was such a thing.

As for if they'd go to war? Well it happened before, but it ment the end of their order. Remember that wether they should fight in the War of the Diamond was what started their split and downfall.

I wouldn't consider going to war healthy for them (and this proves why no such Knights could exist in reality..)

I would cosider what would the outcome be,mabey base your role-play off the crusades of the Richard the Lionheart.Consider the crusaders were fighting for a holy cause in their minds and does the end justify the means sorta stuff. So if by killing one innocent did you save a hundred.Sun Tzu wrote of things like this in the Art of War.

Curse you Divines, stealing Pelinal's armor to use for your own sick pleasures of not killing elves.

Ok, I read like 1/3 of the pocket guide to the empire yesterday. If talos is Tibes Septim... shouldn't he be in favour of conquering other provinces?
Sorry for my noobishness. :D

All the Divines should be. It's controversial, but the Divines/Aedra may be in fact the Maruhkati Selective, the most fanatic sect of the Alessians. That would mean they are pro the slaughter-all-elves agenda. Talos would probably also be pro slaughter all elves, as Wulfarth was extemely anti-elves and he is part of Talos. The other two parts (Tiber and Zurin) weren't exactly pro-elf.

Which begs the question, Why the hell are their elves in the Knights of the Nine?!?

Muthsera,

I usually type numerically, so here is your answer:

1. The KotN are loyal to the Divines.

2. Talos is Tiber Septim.

3. Tiber Septim founded this Empire.

4. Talos is the god of governance and war who commands "Be strong for war. Be bold against enemies and evil, and defend the people of Tamriel."

5. Arkay is the Divine/god of life and death, but he says "honor...the living and dead..."

6. Stendarr is a Divine/god of mercy who commands "Be kind and generous to the people of Tamriel. Protect the weak..."

7. Akatosh is the Chief Divine/Dragon God of Time who commands "Serve and obey your Emperor..."

8. The Emperor is traditionally the High Priest of Akatosh.

Wherefore it appears that the Knights of the Nine would, in fact, support the Empire (obeying Akatosh) and kill in its name (obeying Talos), however they would avoid slaying innocents (obeying Stendarr) and consecrate the bodies of their fallen, both enemy and ally (obeying Arkay). (See http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/ten_commands.shtml and http://www.imperial-library.info/nine_divines/)

I hope this helps.
