My ideas for: a Health and Camp system

Well actually, it's not my idea. This has been done before in an MMO: Star Wars Galaxies. When it first came, the game had an interesting WOUND system. It worked something like this:

*let's say you have a health bar of 100 points
When you were hit while fighting, you lose some health
*now you have 50/100 hp

When the fight ended, a part of your health bar was "blocked" (based on how much health you lost on the fight)
*now you have a maxium of 80/100
Your health regenerated after the fight ended. But now you have a maxium of 80hp.

You could only get back your 100 health points by going to a medic center. Now, my idea is to use a system like this one...

Imagine that a % of you total health were blocked every time you fought (every time you were hit or something), or progressively by not sleeping, or not eating. This could make the game more realistic because you would need to sleep often and eat and drink water. This means that you wouldn't be able to stay a whole week out there killing everything. That would depend on your combat effectiveness, and not only in how many healing potions you have on your kitchen (the inventory I mean). Maybe apply the same thing when using stamina or magicka points.

BTW! thinking about this, I remembered that SWGalaxies had a "camp" system. Why not use something similar? xP anti Fast Travelling guys could find this useful. And this would add a lot to inmersion, and survival... and exploring.. and gameplay.

Imagine deploying a camp (that you can buy or craft), near your next objective, or on top of a mountain with an awesome view, to sleep to recover some health, to heal form diseases, make potions or food with the bonefire (like new vegas), whatever...

What do you think? :P

this is my first post.. don't be so mean please ^_^

I'm rather puzzled as to why no one responded to this. Has been a few topics about camps and the need to eat and sleep (hardcoe Mode) already and they always seemed to fair pretty well post count wise.

Anyhoo, regardless of that, I think this is a lovely idea. I would perhaps suggest that the -% of ones health kicks in upon reaching a quarter of your maximum health though. If it were every time you reached half then it would be every fight nearly. So say you get hit to 25% or lower hp, I think it a nice idea to knock off 10-15% of your total health then, until you eat and drink. If you have been in combat alot and your maximum health is now reduced by, say, 50%, you should have to sleep to recover it methinks.

All this of course only applying if you have the 'hardcoe mode' enabled, should there be such a thing in Skyrim. Usable/placeable campfires and tents I would love to see in the game. Seriously hope they are added!

Welcome to the forums!

I have been playing RPG's for years and I am very used to the health system used in oblivion and other games like it. I abhor the CoD model of health but your idea is a happy medium. With some tweaking I think I may even like it, but all I'm looking for is the classic RPG forumla.

You reminded me about Breath of Fire 3, where you could lose Max HP, and you could regain it only resting in an Inn, while you could regain HPs only up to the new max value camping outside. I'd like it, indeed.

i think that is a good idea but, i would like that all those points were invisible to the player and maybe in some screen just see a message state: hungry, somnolent, etc etc that just for keep the user friendly approach in the same way. and also this is just for the hard core mode isn't it?

pero debo decir que es muy muy buena idea siempre y cuando como te dije continuen con el sistema amigable y no nos hagan bolas con porcentajes y puntos.

Thank you all for the replies! :D

Yes I've always loved the "invisibility" of all those numbers in oblivion :P that's one of the things that I don't like about most mmos and other games. I remember with some games I sat down there for a while just reading the numbers and thinking how they work and all that... I just got tired many times.

Well, in Star Wars Galaxies, the health points that were "blocked" were blacked out. Look at this pic I found with google:
http://zagrus.lindnet.se/screenShot0071.jpg

In the upper left part are the usual 3 bars. You can see a dark green or dark grey segment at the end (right). Thats the "wound"

I've been dreaming with this for a couple of years xP maybe there's a mod for oblivion already but I don't know
