XP security suite 2011 malware

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:17 pm

Wife got it on her computer somehow. We can bypass it and get to the internet, but it needs to be gone. We haven't gone to the fake website. Running McAffee right now on a full scan; quick scan didn't pick it up.

What should I do next?

nogo on the malwarebytes.

I can download on her computer, but it won't run. Tried renaming it at the downloand and at the desktop, nada; the false security suite kicks in and won't allow MWbiytes to run its set-up.

I found something about roguekiller first, then MWbytes?

Are you in safe mode when trying to install it? if not, boot into safe mode and see if you can install it then.

You also shouldn't be connected to the Internet on that computer any longer. Only connect to the Internet as absolutely necessary (to download definition updates and removal software) after that disconnect right away.

Actually, it's Shirley. :P

Anyway, besides Malwarebytes, the two other programs I like to use for cleaning up computers are http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html and http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/antimalware/.

Ah, weary whackiness at its finest!

Update:

Downloading and running Rougekiller neutralized the baddy so that MWbytes could be installed. Currently doing a full scan with it

Will see what happens next...I'll probably nap a bit

Thanks for the help!

I had the same thing for vista, was a pain in the ass removing. I eventually found a code to enter to at least allow you to use your computer. Then I downloaded Malwarebytes and hastily got rid of my "virus software"

I'd update malwarebytes (again, it updates pretty frequently) and do another full scan

I'd also check with another tool like Spyware Doctor or Emsisoft Anti-Malware
