CTDs on every fast travel

I recently started a new char, and had what I considered a stable save, no crashes or errors in about 13 1/2 hours of playtime. But now I suddenly can't fast travel! I went through my mods, and the only differences I find from my last "stable" save are these:

I also had this problem. It seemed to materialize after many hours in a game, despite no prior issues and no additional mods. I thought it might be related to the Companion Vilja mod where I posted my question. I discovered independently that travelling without a helmet or wigs is ok, but travelling with a helmet or wig will eventually fail. Then the people on the Vilja thread confirmed that something in the unofficial patch causes this problem.

The only workaround is ensure that no one is travelling in a helmet or wig.

Hope that is the same issue for you and helps give you only a minor irritation workaround.

By the way, have you disabled autosave on travel? Make sure you did that to confirm it's not autosave issue.

This is a link to the discussion in the Vilja-thread no 2 about all companions arriving bald after fastttravelling when wearing a helmet or a whig http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1101547-relzcompanion-vilja-ver-21-thread-no-2/page__view__findpost__p__16120110. Occasionally this also seem to cause CTDs. The problem is however easily solved: remove the helmet/whigs from your companions before fasttravelling.


Note that it is not only UOP that has this effect on companions. The same thing happens when players use All Natural - Real Lights.

I'm sorry that I don't have more information to give, I'm merely repeating the conclusion others have come to in the Vilja-thread.

Just a point about the bald companion problem - it is somehow related to the old companion doubling bug on fast travel, if you use the Wrye Bash fix (in the form of an in-game spell) it sorts the problem.

I'm having this problem as well, but it doesn't seem to be from Vilja, but from Viconia. I can't even take her through any doors that require loading or the game just crashes as soon as I'm through. It's the same with fast travel. Vilja seems to be able to follow me anywhere. I have had her come through bald as well, though.

I've had the same thing happen, where a successful fast travel will result in a bald Vilja, however most will CTD. Stopped happening for me when I kept her hat-less (she's cuter that way anywho). Still will occasionally get random CTDs, but that seemed to alleviate a lot of my fast-travel CTD's.

Wow, this must be the most random fix I have heard of yet...


Edit: I might have missed this since I do not use fast travel, but maybe this is the source of the RTT crashes too. I like giving them hoods to wear on ocassion... :(

Edit: Does anyone have a clue as to what that fix does?

I was having a problem with crashing after fast travel that started after downloading the Stoker Wolf Companion mod and the Hero Store mod. I noted after a while the game crashed when Stoker's horse was out and about. I unchecked my Horse armor DLC and reverted to an earlier save (that still included both the Stoker Wolf Companion Mod and the Hero Store Mod). I then got on my horse with both Vilja and Stoker at my side and waited for them to summon and mount their horses. We rode our horses for a bit then I dismounted and waited for Stoker's horse to go 'poof". I then fast traveled and have had no crashes since then.

My problem ended up being a crash to desktop if Stoker's Horse was present. I have no idea why but I now just wait till his horse goes poof before I fast travel when I have him traveling the roads with me.

I tested this with Vilja's horse out and about and no crash so for me Vilja's horse is safe.

I don't use any companions, and I think my horse is dead (:P), so I don't think that's my problem.
I'll try to disable UOP and see if it works then.

Can you fast travel without companions? Have you tried deactivating every mods, literally every mod and then individual mods?

This may sound stupid but have you tried on an old save? maybe the save you are trying now is corrupted? Maybe try disablling the UOP and try on a old save ?
