Retail Version of Daggerfall?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:27 am

I was reading all the way at the end of these forums and they said that the Retail version of DF has morbid images of heads lying on the ground, impaled bodies, naked dead women etc. My game has all these in it (my DF game is a CD) Is this a rare type of DF copy or something? Whats retail exactly mean anyway?

I believe they're comparing the retail version to the demo.

I believe you can turn these all off using the ChildGuard feature.

ChildGuard seems to be somewhat incomplete, however - although it removes the majority of gore in the game, there remains the issue of nudity. But ChildGuard is great if you enjoy stabbing rats, watching them shoot out blue fireworks, and then see them expire and leave behind a distinctly humanoid skeleton. I know I enjoy it.

All Childguard does is swap out one set of sprites for another. If you know which files they are (and I don't right off hand) you can just rename the gory one to the file Childguard looks for.

Wait, they have a parental lock in DF? Was this in the original release?? I've never seen it mentioned and would be interested in trying it out because it sounds hilarious!

Turning boobies off in Daggerfall is sort of like sewing your mittens to the end of your jacket sleeves so you don't lose them.

Anywy, the DF demo has all three varieties of naked man piles in the same dungeon. The heads are common in retail DF, but the other two man piles are less common.

It's only accessible through the install program, not the game itself, which is probably why you didn't know about it. Azileron describes it quite well.
