To get the free version of Arena to start, where do I download DOSBox and Arena? I heard you put them both in the Program Files folder, but when I start up DOS and type in what I am supposed to, it says it does not exist?
So basically, where do I download the two? (Arena Game and DOS Box). :D

Here I'll post some links...

DosBox: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Other-Programming-Files/DOSBox.shtml

Arena: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm

(I didnt put Arena in the Program Files folder, but I did with DosBox)

When you install Arena, just click Install, dont browse, if you want it to be in your C:\Arena folder. It will create one for you...

Hello, Pandora1. I just had the same issue. Skip the instructions involving the regular command prompt, and head straight into the emulator.

type MOUNT C:\
and press enter.
Then type C:
enter
CD/ARENA
enter
ARENA

And from there the game will start. This is exactly how I did it, and I am now playing the game.

Yes, for the controls, click on my signature, and go to the bottom. There should be a post to show you how to move/attack, etc... Im playing Daggerfall right now, but if you need personal help fro me, Private Message (PM) me...

type MOUNT C:\

Then type C:
enter
CD/ARENA
enter
ARENA

___

I just tried what you said. But no success.

When I type 'C:'

it says that I need to mount first. Even though I typed Mount C:\

EDIT: I run on Vista, does this change anything???

When you mount, you should actually type the following:
MOUNT C C:\
Also, note that if you have little knowledge of DOS, it's inadvisable to mount your C:\ drive directly. I suggest putting your ARENA folder into a folder GAMES on your C:\ drive. Then, you can easily open your dosbox.conf file, and add the following lines to the bottom:
MOUNT C C:\GAMES\ARENA
C:
ARENA
This will then make Arena automatically run when you open DOSBox, saving you from typing it out all the time.

It has also been discussed twice recently and using a dynamic core with about 13000 cycles runs Arena best in DOSBox. Setting the cycles very high can cause NPCs and combat to go insanely fast, as well as causing message fades to take painstakingly long amounts of time.

It's still not working.

I made a 'GAMES' folder in C:\

and then I saved ARENA in that folder.

But when I type MOUNT C C:\GAMES\ARENA

it says that

mounting C:\ is not recommended. please create a sub folder.

so what exactly should I type?

MOUNT C C:\GAMES\ARENA?

Because thats not working :(

MOUNT C C:\GAMES\ARENA

That should work. If you're getting the "not recommmended" message, you most likely have an extra space in between the c:\ and the games

I have Arena installed in c:\games\arena and run it in dosbox this way:

mount c c:\games
c:
cd\arena
arena

the only difference is I first "go" to the c:\games folder, then (in the cd step) move into the arena folder to begin the game with the arena command

Sweet, I got it. Thanks for everyone's help.
