I don't mean the moderators, I mean the blatantly rude "fans" of the game.
Too often I see people attacking mods for the worst reasons. It's like they actually get offended by someone elses creation, which is just silly. Especially when it really is a good mod, but doesn't fit someones vision of Morrowind, they should at least recognize the hardwork that went into it. It really is discouraging to all modders and makes me not want to contribute to the community, sometimes.
And I'm not saying that terrible mods deserve praise, otherwise we'll keep getting more crappy mods, but the person who made the mod deserves encouragement.
If I see a horrible new mod, I just ignore it, or offer a quick suggestion (while trying not to be rude.) I think I have voted lower than 7 only once (and that was reserved for a truly broken mod.) What I don't do is get all upset at the modder.
Every modder starts at square one, taking our first awkward steps with the CS. It's a shame that some people think every mod should be a masterpiece.
It's true that some "My First Mod" don't need to be made public, but whatever, you don't have to play it. Point them towards some tutorials and maybe in a few months they will be great.
I know I am guilty of forgetting that all modders aren't over 25 and have been doing this for 6 years, so if we can help the younger modders, we should do it with skill. Offer advice, show links to tutorials/tools, and criticize each other intelligently not blindly.
I am (finally) finishing some really long, intricate quest mods right now, and although I make them for myself first (because I enjoy it) I would love to share with other players, but sometimes it just doesn't seem worth it. Sometimes I feel like I rather keep my hard-work to myself instead of entertain the savages that are amongst us.
Anyways, I think some people need to be reminded that it's just a video game. Even if you haven't taken the time to learn the inner-workings of the CS, you should respect those who have... or are at least trying to.
I needed that rant... blame the moonsugar.
