PES Community

Is it just me, or has PES been taken over by people who don't even like Morrowind?
I don't mean the moderators, I mean the blatantly rude "fans" of the game.

Too often I see people attacking mods for the worst reasons. It's like they actually get offended by someone elses creation, which is just silly. Especially when it really is a good mod, but doesn't fit someones vision of Morrowind, they should at least recognize the hardwork that went into it. It really is discouraging to all modders and makes me not want to contribute to the community, sometimes.

And I'm not saying that terrible mods deserve praise, otherwise we'll keep getting more crappy mods, but the person who made the mod deserves encouragement.
If I see a horrible new mod, I just ignore it, or offer a quick suggestion (while trying not to be rude.) I think I have voted lower than 7 only once (and that was reserved for a truly broken mod.) What I don't do is get all upset at the modder.
Every modder starts at square one, taking our first awkward steps with the CS. It's a shame that some people think every mod should be a masterpiece.
It's true that some "My First Mod" don't need to be made public, but whatever, you don't have to play it. Point them towards some tutorials and maybe in a few months they will be great.
I know I am guilty of forgetting that all modders aren't over 25 and have been doing this for 6 years, so if we can help the younger modders, we should do it with skill. Offer advice, show links to tutorials/tools, and criticize each other intelligently not blindly.

I am (finally) finishing some really long, intricate quest mods right now, and although I make them for myself first (because I enjoy it) I would love to share with other players, but sometimes it just doesn't seem worth it. Sometimes I feel like I rather keep my hard-work to myself instead of entertain the savages that are amongst us.

Anyways, I think some people need to be reminded that it's just a video game. Even if you haven't taken the time to learn the inner-workings of the CS, you should respect those who have... or are at least trying to.

I needed that rant... blame the moonsugar.

It's nothing new. it's pretty sad when more and more mod makers are finding it easier to just not allowing comments.

The reason the loudmouths are so noticeable is because they're loud. A lot of people will appreciate a good mod, but never comment on it at PES. I hope you decide to share your intricate quest mod!

I don't even read comments at PES. It amazes me when I hear that people do read them. I have two mods of my own at PES and I don't know if either of them have ever received comments (or ratings) and I have no desire to find out.

Many people leave nice or constructive comments, I find. But it is true that a few trolls leave pointless, even offensive, comments which you'd much rather just delete.

the comments for the mods often leave me speachless. I think that people sometimes posts without reading the description of the mod. It can be the only explanation.
Once, for a mod that calmed the animals, so that they don't attack you on sight, someone askeed "can you post screenshots?".
ONce I made a mod that added a buyable PackGuar to Balmora, scripted so that it could follow the PC when travelling with Scout's Services. I explained very well that the PackGuar was in the same position with the one added by Balmora Expanded, because that place looked right to me, but that the script was mine (and it couldn't be otherwise, because it made the guar follow you when you use scout's services).
So, what was the first comment ?
You're stepping into dangerous territory copying scripts from BE.
Of course, I removed the mod then.

You know you can disable comments on PES? Just do that.

I tend to just upload mods and forget about them

I'm sorry, but we don't allow criticism of other sites here because it's not fair or appropriate to do it here. If you have an issue with PES, please take it up directly with APY or one of the other staffers there.

If you see a comment at PES, please use Planet Elder Scrolls' own Report button - the comments section is moderated and your complaints will be responded to.

The most helpful, constructive thing that you can do is to is to report every unfair, rude or unconstructive comment you see.
