They should go back to mostly text dialogue like in Daggerfall and Morrowind, if they can't get a voice acting budget like Bioware.

I love in Morrowind, when I talk to a Hlaalu, Telvanni, or Redoran Guard, they have that raspy voice. (only when I greet them), and I really, really, really love being able to taunt npcs into attacking me (I recently did the Boethia's Pillowbook TG Quest, I taunted Gandosa Arobar into attacking me, she was an easy fight.) Taunts are great imagine if there were no essential you-cannot-kill-this-npc tags, instead you could taunt them into fighting and kill them. How cool would it be to taunt Travern into a fight? Well to stop completely hijacking the topic, I do love hearing the screams of a dunmer woman yelling "Die Fetcher!" or "You S'wit!" In Oblivion they didn't say any of that stuff, it really ruined immersion when I fought a dark elf bandit and he didn't cuss me out in dunmeri.

Occasionally I'll turn the voices off (or at least to their most quiet setting) so I can just read the subtitles. Of course, the faces and lips still move, but some of the voices (Nord/Orc/Elf males in particular) become so abrasive after a while it's often worth it. On another note, some of the fighting dialogue became far too repetitive. Not to mention that the lines are a little silly to begin with. The same could be said for Morrowind.

I was actually really, really disappointed because, frankly, that raspy voice is what made the Dark Elves unique and prevented the Dark Elves in Morrowind from simply being different colored carbon copies of the High Elves.

Bethesda could have done text dialogue then. It seems like they spent most of their budget on big name actors to be honest. If your going to do voice acting don't spend all of your money on them and make sure that their is a different voice for every race. If they are going to do voice acting they need to do it well. Of course, they could use fans and employees voices for free.

Also, on Morrowind's Dunmer voices, there is no way it's the ash since all of the other races on Vvardenfell and the Female Dunmer sound normal so it's probably just the normal voice.

OH MY GOSH!!!! Why did they change that AI?! There is no way that was scripted. They should of kept it, it could have had hilarious results.

They say IN MORROWIND that outlander Dark Elves talk different from those who originate from Morrowind, so there is a lore reason.

I think the deathblow to the Orcs' voice in Oblivion (as a result of them sharing the male Nord voice) was more in the inflections and emphasis on certain words. The Orcs in Morrowind spoke in a slower, more powerful and "barbaric" way, whereas in Oblivion they speak using regular speed and word emphasis, much like humans too. For example, in Morrowind:

"There are MAN-y creaTURES beyond the CITIES...good hunting."

Makes you think of some Mongol raider or a caveman. In Oblivion they just sound too sophisticated.

That's not how the voice sounded like in Morrowind. Closer but not it. Besides, its better then the deafening voices of the Mer in Oblivion IMO.

did you know the elf voices where done by the same guy that voiced butch in F3 lol also the old dark elf voice sounds alot ike the ghouls in F3

Never played FO3 but I do know the guy who played Haskill did Morrowind's Dunmer voices.

The voice in that E3 video is not the one from Morrowind. At least, the raspiness seems faker. The Dunmer in Morrowind just naturally had an undertone to their voice, whereas with the guy in the video you can almost imagine the gunk clogging his throat.
