Can someone recommend me some mods?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:20 am

I've installed FCOM (Plus most of the optional mods), Better Cities, Alternate Start, and the Lost Spires. I'm looking for any interesting mods that add more features, content, or cool stuff to the game. Also, I'd really like it if someone could recommend me a mod that makes the faces less ugly. I tried the "Beautiful People" mod but it added races and didn't really do too much to help out. I'm not looking for anime-looking characters or additional races, I just want the option to create a character that doesn't look like a complete mutant with a disfigured head.

(And just to be sure, every time I added mods, I need to run BOSS, re-build the BASHED patch, and is that it?)

Thank you

If you have the performance to spare I'd recommend RAEVWD. Also, All Natural and Animated Window Lighting System.

Skip Beautiful People. If you want access to more races, hairs, eyes - use Cobl Races or Race Balancing Project instead.

For faces I'm using Improved Facial Textures and Enayla's New Face Textures, but there are of course alternatives. Check http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html for more on texture replacers.

And, yes, run BOSS to get the correct load order - and rebuild the Bashed Patch (not always necessary as it depends on which mod you've added, but a good idea generally). If you decide to add RAEVWD you should also run TES4LodGen after adding new mods or changing the load order.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6403 + http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12351
is the best replacement. This one cause very slight FPS hit contrary to RAEVWD.

Nothing beat F-IN evOblivion skinset if you use HGEC. It's the number one hand down and should be installed after all those.

"Best" is always a dodgy word to use when it comes to mods, but I'm actually rather sure that award would go to RAEVWD when it comes to this (i.e. optimized meshes etc.). It does give a performance hit, though. But if you can run Better Cities I reckon RAEVWD should work out.

Haven't checked that out. Will do. I'd still want the ageing textures from IFT I guess - but it might replace Enayla's perhaps.

Pretty subjective, that. For instance, there's an alternative HGEC skin texture pack that is 4096x4096, instead of "only" 2048x2048. :P Yeah, I know - "only", indeed. Still, if you want higher res, that (whatever's it's called again...) would be the one to go for, rather than "evOblivion".

edit: And that alternative also comes with a face replacer, of I think the same res as that one (1024, that is). So, equal there.

As Arkngt wrote, "best" is usually a dodgy word, but here I will go as far as saying that you are completely wrong, and that RAEVWD is completely superior, except that Tamriel VWD is a bit easier to install.

Tamriel VWD is lighter on the FPS only because it contains much fewer distant lod objects than RAEVWD. But with RAEVWD you can choose to only install a subset of the files, and if you install only those provided by Tamriel VWD you get better performance than with Tamriel VWD. This is becuase the files from RAEVWD is better optimized.

So RAEVWD is the best VWD mod by far.

Yeah, I'll also second/third/whatever RAEVWD. I've tried them all (what can I say, I am curious about mods... ;)) and yes, it provides the best quality:cost ratio. By a long shot.

edit: Oh, and it was Ozmo's skin pack I was trying to recall the name of - it's listed as "High Rez Skin Textures for HGEC" on the Nexus.

You should read my post to the end ... I said "replacement"
what is best for you is not necessary good for me
I have quite a descent machine (1 GB video memory and 4 GB RAM) and still RAEWIN make my PC stutter like an old PC of the 90s.

Whatever, but you might want to read TheNiceOne's post yourself. I just put you on ignore so I don't have to read your nonsense anymore.

I have tested this ozmo 4096x4096/2048x2048 texture long before but it don't give better quality than the one I have suggested.
(yes you said subjective)

:)

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have to test again RAEVWD, to see if there any available subset for better quality/performance.
