Daggerfall - Sound Delay.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:40 pm

Hello there people. Im having slight problems with running Daggerfall under DosBox. Game runs fine but the sound doesn't, Im getting like 1 second delay on any sound. Its annoying. With DaggerXL i didnt have that problem so im thinking its something with DosBox. So if anyone can please help me out with this i would be really grateful.

Thanks!

I'm thinking either it isn't set to right cpu cycle number, or the audio setup was bad and has to be reconfigured.

You can increase the cpu cycles with ctrl+f12 until the speed is right. I usually used around 30000. But it depends on your computers processing power so that value it may vary.

For reconfiguring your sound options you can just open the HMISET.CFG and paste this over what you have in there:
[DIGITAL]DeviceName  = Sound Blaster Pro         DeviceIRQ   = 5DeviceDMA   = 1DevicePort  = 0x220DeviceID    = 0xe001[MIDI]DeviceName  = Roland Sound Canvas       DevicePort  = 0x330DeviceID    = 0xa001

I recommend getting a frontend for dosbox. It makes configuring it quite easy. I use http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/.

I tried to raise my cpu cycles but it didnt change anything. Also i tried your sound setup, only thing it did was it lowered the overall sound quality but the delay was still there. About the D-Fend, well i got the game working with it but i really cant find the place that lets me configure my daggerfall there.

What i figure is that sound delay comes from buffering, im thinking that my buffer level is high in order to maintain the quality of the sound. If this is the case then where i could modify my buffer level?

I did that copying a pasting, too, because my sound has been acting funny. My horse sounds like a machine gun.

It made it so the game won't start at all, so I had to reconfigure back to default with setup.exe. Got worried for a little while.

To use the daggerfall setup put the setup exe in the setup entry below where you told it where the daggerfall executable is. Also chack to see if your sample rate is at 44100 in your daggerfall profile's sound setting.

To both: Sorry I guess my sound setup is only relevant to what I have the dosbox sound settings at. I have them set at their default settings (mostly) so I figured it would work. Maybe an extra space somewhere messed it up. Some config files can be picky.

Nah, cause I copied and pasted a few times, and then just transcribed by typing. Then, when I changed it back to default, I got an error. The only way to fix it was to run setup.exe

It might be my OS.

That being said, I'm going to mess around with the setting on setup.exe and maybe I can fix my audio.
