Gold has weight in this game. How much gold are you carrying? If the gold is the problem, try looking for a bank in the region you spend most of your time in and deposit some of that gold.

It's your gold. Gold weighs 1 kg per 400g. Get yourself to a bank, deposit your cash into your account, and either leave it there for later or take it back out as a letter of credit.

Yea, it's always wise to check how much gold you're carrying before leaving town on a dungeon adventure. It's a terrible shame to come across some good stuff but can't carry it due to all your cash! You can drop gold from your inventory screen, but you can't pick it back up.
