What modifications did you use?

Just been thinking a bit about this, and I was wondering what kind of mods, cheats, etc. did others use on previous Elder Scrolls games to make it more fun? I'm not necessarily talking about just adding on more content (though that could certainly be discussed too), but what kind of game-changing mods or cheats did you use?

As for me, I used quite a few mods and cheats to make the game better for me. Some of the mods I made or downloaded that I liked the most were still quite simple, but made some major changes to gameplay. For example, my favorite mod was simply to make various weapons with infinite magical charges. I never really liked the idea of limited amunition, and I often spent most of the game running around with magical weapons with no charges left (at least without using my mod). At high levels, it got so bad that sometimes you couldn't kill a single nether lich or equally tough enemy without running out of charges, making even Azura's Star not enough to keep your enchanted weapons full. So, my solution was to go looking for different magical enchantments in the editor, choose one that I felt was relatively balanced, and make a version of my own that had infinite charges, then stick some weapons with that enchantment on them in some location that I felt was safe and easy to reach.

My second favorite mod was definately the "plus5always" mod. I didn't make that one, but I found it via a "Hard Mode" guide on GameFAQs.com, and have made good use of it since. The premise is simple: you can either take the time to level up minor skills enough to make your level-up bonuses always be +5, or you can simply use this mod which made it so that if you would even have normally gotten a +2, now it's a +5. The mod then allowed you all the power you needed from careful leveling, but also allowed you to enjoy more of the immersion the game had to offer.

There are many more mods I've used as well, mostly having to do with changing the game mechanics for what I felt was the better. Some of the better ones I've used include making marksman criticals do the same or similar damage as melee criticals, giving myself the same bonuses as first-day vampires get (such as immunity to disease, poison, and paralysis) without having to actually be a vampire, boosting fatigue regeneration, doubling magicka regeneration, increasing unarmed damage until it became more viable as a primary skill and not just a backup weapon, and re-balanced greater and lesser powers so that they were more useful than mere spells with the same abilties. Some cheats I used including fixing game-breaking bugs (like being able to complete certain quests), as well as capping myself at level 30 (since rewards never get better after that), giving myself all spells so I don't have to go hunting all over for each and every character, giving myself a skill boost equal to the training boost I would have gotten had I not forgotten to train that level, and sometimes "borrowing" extra gold via the giveitem cheat (a.k.a. I would give myself some extra cash up front, and then try to get alot more gold than that later on - useful for starting out with slightly better gear, such as steel armor).

Anyways, those are some of the modifications I've made, primarily to Oblivion. I have played and beaten Morrowind, but my only real cheat back then was an item that gave magicka regen, so that's not much, and I've never played Fallout 3 (it's just not my type of game). So, then the question lies, what mods/cheats did you use?

My Morrowind is packed with balancing mods. Mostly money balancing. Then gameplay improvements, such as Ravenous hunger, Nesseccities of Morrowind (which can also be linked to balancing), etc. Then content, such as Telvanni mods, and then bug fixes.

I believe I have nothing that could count as a "Cheat".. Perhaps Ravenous Hunger..

I've also scoured the internet and found, what I believe to be, the best assortment of retextures.

Ahhh, here it is - this is what I was trying to post when the thread was moved....

I think the only mod I used that might be considered cheaty, was one that made Oblivion item enchantments regenerate over time when equipped (at a rate based on your willpower as there was no enchanting skill) - but I didn't consider a real cheat, because it was just re-introducing something that had been in Morrowind and its removal from Oblivion annoyed me no end, so it was just to increase my enjoyment of the game.

Mostly I used levelling mods (Galasiah's Character Development in MW, and Realistic Levelling in OB); survival mods (Necessities of Morrowind in MW, and the COBL-aware versions of Realistic Hunger and Realistic thirst in OB); mods to increase the variety and behaviour of creature/enemy spawns (Creatures X for MW, MMM for OB, oh and also Abot's Water Life and the birds one too for MW); Texture packs; Armour & Weapon packs (balanced); mods to liven up the world with more travellers and NPCs; mods to give NPCs more to say, lore-correct (big shout out to Less Generic NPCs for MW, superb work); Landmass mods (Tamriel Rebuilt); and quest mods. Loads of quest mods of course. And just stuff for flavour like making potion bottles prettier and more unique, lanterns and moveable lights for OB, House mods for MW and OB....

In other words, quite a lot of mods - but nothing I'd consider cheaty!

My normal install for Oblivon is:

- a level scaling fix (usually Francesco's)
- a few minor fixes/efficiencies (low poly grass, DaRN UI, better map icons...)
- a basic house
- a better body/face/skin
- lots of clothes for that body. :)

After that it's just whatever recent mods I want to try out. New adventures or races, mostly.

Oblivion I modded to the point it's barely the same game anymore >> Overhauls, texture stuff, alternative start, item packs, patches, etc.

Morrowind I modded for purely cosmetic reasons, and bugs of course.

I never modded Oblivion much, it was too irritating for some reason.

In Morrowind I only use a few balancing mods, TR, Julan, an alternate start mod, and a few other little things that enhance the world. I only like to play with mods that make Morrowind still feel like Morrowind.

Things I had to have -
1. Something to fix the levelling system. GCD was my favourite in MW.
2. Cosmetic mods to improve appearance of characters and gameworld.
3. Lots of clothes mods.

The mods I used on Morrowind are mainly for balancing and expanding the content.
Economy, spells, magic items, creatures...you name it, I probably changed it.
Cheat mods? I tend to avoid those.

I guess I didn't really define "cheats" too well, and really one person's cheat is another's mod. Kinda what I was refering to were the console commands you can use in-game to do things like give all spells (psb), turn off clipping (tcl), giving tons of money (player.additem 0000000f 1000000), and so on.

Ahhh I see. Now I did use tcl because occasionally my character would get stuck somewhere especially when jumping about, or more frequently (in MW) stuck in a narrow passageway - usually on stairs in Imperial Forts and in the round side passages of Telvanni Towers - behind an NPC who was not going to move for love nor money (later discovered a mod for this, called "Take my place" which allows you through dialogue to swap places with an NPC, very useful). But getting out of being wedged in somewhere is not cheating.

For Morrowind, I'll add some textures (I like Richer Textures and Connary), a new house or two (Balmora Hideout is a given), Creatures X, Tamriel Rebuilt, MPP and MCP, a companion or two (usually either Constance or Julan), Book Rotate, LGNPC, Better Bodies and Better Heads, Better Clothes, Hunter's Achievements, Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins, and a new quest or three. Closest thing to a cheat would be the companions, because two swords are better than one, but Creatures X kind of evens it out.

But if I've gotten bored with a character, and just want to mess around, I have been known to pay a visit to Toddtest, and load up Pandy's Cheats, and abuse the console, and well just go crazy for awhile. But when I'm serious about it, the first paragraph pretty much sums up my load out. There's a time and a place for everything.

I did use tcl ocasionally. I once had a sword fall between a rug and the floor and had to use tcl to find it. I also used ra and fixme. Basically if you're fixing a bug or glitch I wouldn't see it as a cheat.
When my 5 year old nephew played I turned on god mode.
