Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:08 am

Just to quickly reitereate the issue instead of making you read the entire thread

i get a crash every three or four cell changes with ether better cities or fcom activated
i have quarls texture pack 3 installed, the low quality version
ive reinstalled both fcom and bc to no avail
my hardware specs are up to the task of running oblivion
i get the same issue with a clean boot
the cake is a lie
no change with ether streamline or crash prevention system
here is my mod list

Ok so recently ive had a crash problem pop up, where during a cell change the game will just crash, after some troubleshooting ive found that with nothing but better cities, and the unofficial patches running, i will get a crash after 3 or 4 consecutive cell changes, ive already reinstalled the latest version of BC, and i know my pc can handle it as i get no fps hit even in high clutter areas.

after some searching ive not yet been able to determine if this is a known problem or not, anyone have some more info that might help me remedy this, as better cities is my favorite mod and i would hate to have to play without it =P

Try without BC at all, just vanilla+patches. Then tell me your secret for no fps hit :)

i have tried it with just vanilla and no problems, and the secret is to use the fps patches and kill all processes running in the background =p

I remember that problem and discussing it with Arthmoor. I think it was related to Screen Effects and the buggy OBGE DLL, however. Have you turned off the for Oblivion auto-save options in the Oblivion.ini?

Are you sure you disabled the Interior-Exterior transition autosaves...? A clean boot helping is normal, but I do not see how background processes running would BC-specific...

Edit: If you do a clean boot, do the FPS patches still make a difference? http://www.ehow.com/how_5331553_clean-boot-windows.html

This does not sound like a codecs issue and your hardware seems to be up to snuff, so a Dxdiag would not help either... If you use TES4LODGen, have you re-run it?

yes im sure its off, and the disabling of background processes isnt for bc specifically, it just frees up more resources for the game to use, seems to help me get a bit better performance

Oh... Could we see what you are running with anyway? Please, post your Dxdiag (in spoiler tags.)

also uppon further testing, it looks like if i run more than a few mods i get the same problem, though not as consistent as it was with BC, so im beginning to think it might be an issue with ether my hardware, or maby somthign wrong with the oblivion.exe

Are you running any texture replacers? You only have 512MB of VRAM. Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

Edit: Dude, your CPU is not that great... If it were a newer dual core, things would be different. The 2.2GHz does not help, but the weak architecture is the worser spec. If you run BC, definitely use the FPS patches.

i do use the fps patches i have quarl texture pack 3, yes i have dx9c and im overclockign both the cpu and gpu and yes i have adiquate cooling in the form of friggin massive heatsinks and 5 120mm fans in a full atx case,

i assure you i get at least 30 fps at the worst of times, and my pc never overheats. it still might be a hardware issue, so im going to reseat all my components, and my case is due for a dusting anyways.

Quick update, ive done some more testing, and if i leave better cities and fcom deactivated, but activate all of my other mods i get no problem, if i activate ether bc or fcom, the crashing issue pops up, now i know my pc hardware can handle them both as ive had several other installs of oblivion +fcom and bc run fine, i dont know what the hell i did this time, but i managed to screw somthing up, ive done complete reinstalls of fcom and bc to no avail, heres my complete modlist.

That solved someone's issues in the Hardware Forum...

Edit: ...definitely cannot say that it will affect your situation. I'm really off to bed now. ;)

Are you using Windom Earle's Oblivion Crash Prevention System? It is quite recommended.

I really, really do not like that mod. If it does not work, fix a specific crash you need fixed, do not use it. That's my opinion of it, anyway... It's definitely not for my setup...

It lowers FPS for me and there were many reports of lower FPS for other people.

I was more concerned over the new crash it introduced. One was repeatable. I have no clue what else it did, but I had had more stable setups prior to its installation. Still, it is worth the try for some users. I am not saying absolutely do not use it, but do not leave it if it is not helping. Adding it to a new setup before you even know it has problems is not the best decision (in my book) either because it covers up crashes that may be otherwise fixable.

Which new crash? I used that since a long time and I never had any issue I can recall of.

FPS loss were not encountered either on my machine...

i have quarl texture pack 3

If this isn't the Redimized version of QTP3, this is your entire problem. A 512MB card can't handle the full version.
