Didn't lots of Balrogs help Melkor when he fought Ungoliant? My Middle Earth lore is very rusty though.

Yeah there were tons of Balrogs. But not sure if they helped Melkor fight off the fat spider.

Yup. It seems like there were really meant to be a LOT of them.
According to the internet (again), the number seven is derived from a single, unpublished note in the margins of one of Tolkein's writings, and from before he wrote the Silmarillion. So maybe he thought better of it?

Eh, Glor-"killed a frickin' balrog"-findel (cruelly cut from the film version of LotR - if it was the same elf) is more my style. Or maybe Túrin (killed a frickin' dragon); badass, despite how horrifically unlucky he was. Or Bombadil and his merry Thu'um...

But Middle Earth nerdism aside, I agree that having the option to toss fireballs from a staff in one hand, and swing Glamdring a sword in the other, is really cool.

I got to say I would like to see that in film form, only it would be cut and some characters would take other roles, and thats why I hate adaptions. But mainly I want to see Glaurung racking up some elf kills in Nargothrond. Stupid Elves...

Yeah, I was pretty frustrated that Glorfindel was cut from the movies (and replaced with Arwen, no less, who they really seemed to trash). And I was seven when that movie came out.

In all honesty, Arwen's role was way too vastly, and unnecessarily, drawn out. [censored] Liv Tyler. The more significant hook up should have gone to Faramir and Eowyn, but noooo.

Exactly. I feel like Tolkein kind of made a point to keep Aragorn far, far away from Arwen in the books on purpose, because he clearly believed that women didn't belong in a war (or, at least, that's the culture he imagined for Middle-Earth... He does contradict that with Eowyn) and Aragorn's chapters of LotR are a trench-warfare story. They really threw her character in Tolkein's face.
But you gotta have a love story, right?

Glorfindel in the fellowship probably not the balrog killer, just another elf who happened to havethe same name

More like Saruman, probably.

More like Morgoth I think. Though it is not stated if it's certain, it is written in the appendix of Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales or in the Lost tales of Middleearth, that Gandalf might actually be Manwe in human disguise, but with a certain loss of memory, making him potentially the strongest creature ever except for Eru.

So Tom Bombadil could, theoretically, still beat Gandalf then? :P

Bombadil is Mother (Father?) Nature, he came into being when Middle Earth came into being, oh, and he also married a naked woman he found in a pond :ermm:

You mean Goldberry? I don't think it's quite clear on what she is either, only that she is extremely beautiful.

And I was indeed referring to the speculation that Tom may be Eru :whistling:

That's another hot-topic. I read most of a long discourse explaining how Tom is a Valar though, I believe Aule, and Yavanna is Goldberry. But who knows.

I just realized that you could create Gandalf (Lord of the Rings) if you really wanted to. Being that there are now beards and dual-wielding. Have a longsword in one hand and a staff of light in the other. Am I right? But if I ever created him I would definitely make him a dark side Gandalf.

You could make Saruman then!

Do we even have staffs in the game? As I said before, it looks like a wand, not a staff.

i think they were two different elfs in the beginning, but Tolkien changed his mind (again) and made them the same because he felt that all elven names should be uniqe.

Glorfindel of Gondolin and Glorfindel of Rivendale are the same Elf... i believe Tolkien made that distinction before he died

Pansy ass Maiar, indifferent Valar, troublesome Valarukar, why don't you make a real bad ass HUMAN, none of that godly power all the others hide behind. You can call me Turin Turambar, Master of Doom. I've got some time to kill until Dagor Dagorath, when I finally do what everybody else failed to do and KILL Morgoth with my black blade Gurthang, so tell those Skyrim dragons I'm coming for them.

I want to be able to change my character's height. I just think it would be totally epic to go around with a short sword as a fat little hobbit killing dragons. Making a little bilbo would be epic. Big mountains, Hobbits, dragons. Kinda reminds me of The Hobbit
