Non-Static Objects?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:07 pm

Call me a nit-picker, but I really hope objects are still movable. Like plates and food and the like. It all added a great sense of actually being there, vs. knocking into something that should definitely be able to be knocked over, only having it seem as though it is nailed to the environment. That is one major thing that has set Oblivion apart. A simple concept, but something I love. :D With as good as the objects look in the Skyrim screen shots, it would be really impressive to know that they are not static in their environments.
Usually with a game that looks nearly as good everything would be static.

Can't imagine any reason for taking such a large feature of the previous game out, they would need a mentally good reason. Don't think you should worry at all.

I agree, and I think it will be in the game. Clutter is a staple of thes Elder Scrolls series. It would also be cool if some larger objects, such as chairs and tables, could be knocked over and dragged about.

Fallout 3 was even better than Oblivion so no worry, sometime the floor was covered in junk you could pick up. I was actually disappointed that the seesaws was static had been fun to place something on them and jump on the other end.

I would be extremely surprised to see common objects become static. I will 99.99% guarantee that everything will be movable as in Morrowind and Oblivion.

I hope they fix the physic on the small objects, so they don't fly everywere if you slightly touch them, made decorating you house a pain.

Yes. This is pretty annoying.

...Not that I decorate my house like some kind of silly nanny, or anything.

Actually it has been confirmed that people get angry if you knock over lots of thing and make a mess. Not sure if they will like you less or simply shout like in Fallout 3.

I will miss walking into a random house cast lesser fireball on the dinner table and bookshelf and the owner is happy to see me.

Perhaps I've read this, but I can't recall where, or even if I did. Source?

We'll probably still be able to move stuff around. I can just imagine trashing somebody's place if they're not nice to me. :whistling:

Sorry I don't have a source, but it was a article about improved AI. same as a friend would not attack you or call the guard if you took an apple from a table, but would react if you took a silver dagger or something expensive.

It'd be shweet if doing this actually affected the game. Like trashing someones house might make them no go to work meaning that a shop is closed and ripe for a break in.

I think that the clutter in TES games is one of the unique features of those games. Whenever I see a bookshelf in a non-TES game, it would just be a static piece of furniture, but in a TES game, every single book on that bookshelf can be read and taken, turning a static furniture into a holder of knowledge, stories and sometimes even Septims.

I just spent a few minutes today putting a calcinator up on a shelf and filling a bowl with alchemical ingredients in my Imperial City home in Oblivion, and although it's just a small thing, it goes a long way in giving the game a sense of great interactivity and also helps to facilitate roleplaying.
