24/7 Access, Daggerfall Bug

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:54 am

All of a sudden I've got 24/7 access to the Mages Guild which I don't deserve since I'm only 6th rank. Here is what (I think) happened.

Shortly after getting out of Privateer's Hold, I joined the Mages guild on the 6th of Morning Star a few minutes before noon.
28 days later, the 4th of Suns Dawn, I entered a Mages guild at 11am and clicked on the quest giver expecting to get promoted, and wasn't. Remembering the time I had originally joined, I loitered for an hour, clicked on the guy, and was promoted to Warlock (6th rank). I then enchanted an item, went on a quest, and returned 2 days later to find the guild open for me at 3am.
I've since exited to desktop and reloaded just to confirm I still had 24/7 access, I do. (I do not, however, have access to the Teleporter, the other rank 8 benefit).

Why was I granted this access?....I "think" it was because I was loitering inside the guild at the exact time my 28 day waiting period expired. I'm anxious to try this in the Fighters guild and a Knightly order (even though the Nights normally never give 24/7 access) but that will be a couple of game months down the road.

I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else or if someone can confirm this "bug".

I think it's simply that the UESP is wrong about when anytime access is granted. I've gotten 24/7 access to the MG well before 8th rank before. Perhaps it is simply a function of your reputation with the guild, not your rank?

Yet another game mechanic well hidden from players then. Ah! The mysteries of Daggerfall! :)

(I must admit that I love the 24/7 bug you can get in shops when you're sent to those establishments to meet someone. You get free loot from the tables. And if you're in a general store, you get a minimum of 6 free horses to store in your backpack! )

Finally got around to checking this out a bit more. You're right, 24/7 access to the Mages Guild depends on Reputation (need 80), not rank. I've also found this to be true for the Fighters Guild.

I have reputation 98 in Mages Guild, and they won't let me in after hours (I'm only Magician yet). The admission depends on rank, although the numbers in UESP seem to be mistaken.

Thanks Kir, looks like I really jumped the gun on that one.

I've done some more testing and found that 24/7 access does depend on rank, and that the UESP IS mistaken. Warlock (6th rank, high skill 63, low skill 28, reputation 60) is sufficient to get that 24/7 access.

I suspect that the Fighters Guild is the same (but I'm too lazy to check that one out).
