Ooh, I like that one. What's it called?

I'm using Cyanogen 7, included with that is a theme chooser which can skin the notification bar and stuff. I'm using the JAMT theme, as for the text on the desktop those are actually just pictures linked to a widget which is called Desktop Visualizer, and the folders linked to that widget are an app called SimliFolder. It sounds pretty complicated, but once you get it all setup it's really not.

So I'm already partway there - I've got Desktop Visualizer already. It took a bit more work, but gave me a better Contacts home screen than any of the Contacts widgets offer, with photos of my contacts linked to direct dial them. Now I just have to get SiMi :)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12656970&postcount=217 post lists all of the files you need to get it looking like that. There is a zip file that you can flash to change the system fonts as well.

So minus the thunderbolt, the droid x is probably the way to go correct? And I know I get good 3g coverage on an iPhone at my house, so I can't see reception being any different.

i recently bought the samsung galaxy and its awesome. people arent kidding about how customizable this thing is from the UI to.........well everything. the only thing that svcks for me is that im paying $10 a month extra for the 4G stuff even though its not available around here till summer. :(

ive messed around with my cousins iphone and ive noticed that some websites dont load up properly which im assuming is because they use flash.

only downside to my new phone is the horrendous battery life even after you do all the tricks. im used to phones that i could use for days before i had to charge them. guess thats the price for having toys.

But you must like at least one language that runs on the JVM? (Python, Ruby, Tcl, PHP, Lisp, Java, Erlang, Lua, C, Ada..)

I love Python but I didn't even know that you could run Python on a JVM without using Jython or something

You need to use jpythonc at some point to compile it or use the jpython jar

Ok, so that's another point for Android then, but I still prefer WP7 :P

I'm concerned about the pocketability of the Droid X. Is there much of a difference between the X and the 2 sans the hardware? I'm pretty set on the X, but I don't want to get it home and have it not fit in my jeans.

Like I said, I have the HTC Desire HD (slightly larger than the Droid X) and it feels perfectly comfortable in the front pocket of my jeans. Heck, I even have a silicone sleeve that adds a couple millimeters of bulk to each side. It shouldn't be an issue for you.

I have a samsung impression right now, and i have like 3cm of room left in my pocket. It would be cutting it pretty close. I guess it'll probably be fine though.

Well, I suppose it could be a difference in the jeans, too. I mean, I buy relaxed or loose fit jeans from Mark's Work Wearhouse, so they're not exactly designer! Sounds like your point is valid, and will need an in-store test run to be sure.

I mean...I'm not wearing skinny jeans, but there isn't exactly a ton of pocket room. Plus it can vary between pairs.

It's kind of hard to test it out in the store because they have those massive security things on it too. Oh well, I plan on going to the Verizon store later. I'll check it out.

Edit: I just went with the thunderbolt. So far I am really happy.

Well, before I moved to Japan, I was using the iPhone, and it is the best phone, hands down. I've tried getting into the HTCs and the other androids. They have really nice user-interfaces, a good app market, but the camera isn't as good. They're heavier and bigger. And, they feel cluttered. With the iPhone, everything is right there. It's so simple, and yet so dynamic. Anything you want to do, you can do on an iPhone. I guess now you can get it from Verizon, so if you don't like AT&T, then you can go with that.

It also has a front-facing camera which is really handy. Like I said before, you can do anything on an iPhone. I read books on mine, record music (zero mic noise, great clarity), Skype, Facebook, study languages, and even play Doom.

I've always been a PC user, but I'm switching to Mac. It's where it's at to be honest, unless you're the gamer type.

You said you don't really like the UI on Android, but you can make it look like whatever you want with just a bit of effort, for example here is my new UI http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/ska8tdude/snap20110427_125852.png and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/ska8tdude/snap20110427_125715.png.

I recognise that as SiMi Folder, but for yours, are you using icons that are words, or is that an hidden function that I haven't discovered yet that allow me to type it out?

It's not a hidden function, it's just icons that are words.

I don't have either, but from seeing friends' iPhones and Droids, I personally like the Droids more.
