Things Im Thankful For In Skyrim.....

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:01 pm

combat is faster paced and more visceral

head bobbing while running

cant cast spells while equipped with a weapon/shield in that hand

shadows on everything (biggy for me)

HDR looks improved

they didnt place the game in kitty or lizard land (another biggie for me)

water looks better

from the screenshots it looks like the nord women at least have nice boobs

they havent shown much of the equipment and gear but it looks more down to earth and less goofy than oblivion was. the robes worn by they guy in the trailer have pouches and look more utilitarian and less gawdy

skyrims snow, while not nearly as good as minecraft, are at least particles and have some physics

the mountains are steep and very high looking and are a HUGE improvement over oblivions hills

the game world appears to be seperated so you cant see from one side to another

textures look better than console version of oblivion so im assuming that the PC textures will be better than the PC version of vanilla oblivion as well

they put pants on the giants (the only kind of "wood" i want swinging around my face in the wilderness should be branches) <_<

jobs (this is a nice touch, i just hope that you cant abuse them and get tons of gold)

levelling system closer to fallout 3 than oblivions

ability to sabotage buildings and local economies

companions (loved them in the fallout games and i used mods in oblivion and morrowind)

I agree. I'd add the panting effect that you got when the PC was running through the woods at the start of the trailer, plus the removal of classes.
Also the more "brutal", "visceral" feel of the game. I know you mentioned it, but I think it's good enough to get two mentions :D

Yeah I definitely agree with eveything here!
Also, the kill animations look awesome! finally we'll get to assassinate someone AND look badass at the same time!

And I'm really, REALLY glad for dual weilding

panting? i missed that. *heads off to watch the trailer again*

got so caught up in the music i completely missed that. its hard to tell but it looks like you can see his breath.......unless that snow coming up from the ground while running.

the water on the shoreline and the caves is much better than oblivions.......i realize that the rapids water isnt the best looking compared to games like uncharted but im trying to keep this positive since there already is a plethora of threads about the water and ive posted in them.

Ya, I thought the water looked great, not merely good. Have you seen the terrible water in Ob, the "waterfalls" are a joke, the rivers do not flow, the sea does not have a tide, its terrible.

So far the environments look far more intriguing than Oblivion's.

I very much like the sound of the new AI they're rolling with, Radiant Story (replacing Radiant AI).

"Radiant Story furthers the personality of NPCs. They will interact with their environment, such as by working at farms, mills, woodcutting camps and mines. They will also interact with the player character, such as by requesting favours, asking for training, or challenging the player character to a duel..."

And i also agree with all of the OP's points. Faster paced combat sounds fantastic.

Agreed. Biggest thing for me is new combat system so it doesn't look like you're swinning some stick.

Whoah, I missed that part about asking for training and duel challenges. Where is this from? That would be so sweet!

Almost everything, especially the revamped combat, non-combat activities like woodcutting, radiant story (so watching my brother play won't make things totally boring for me) and the promise of more unique-ness! :celebration:

Agreed. I love the thought of the above things. The finishing moves has really whetted my appetite also. I can`t wait to try the combat side of Skyrim!

Giants with pants is also quite a relief ;)

I agree with everything except for one thing.

- HDR looks improved.

While it's improved, it could still need some more work/tweaking.

i chocked that scene up to there being snow and ice all around. if youve ever been skying on a sunny day everything is super bright......hence the term snow blindness. it does look a little overly bright on his shoulders but it didnt look nearly as bad as the ruins in oblivion where i would literally squint or reflexively cover my eyes with my hand. i didnt have to do that once in this trailer. hopefully they noticed it and will continue tweaking it.
